Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Medical Surgical/Oncology unit position at a Level IV Trauma Center and major teaching hospital, requiring telemetry skills and a WV or Compact RN license.
Details
- Work setting is a 29-bed Medical Surgical/Oncology unit within a large acute care hospital (838 beds)
- Patient population includes adult medical and surgical oncology patients, palliative care, urology, and telemetry patients
- Patient ratios are 4–5:1 on days and 5–6:1 on nights
- Day shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
- Contract options available for 36 or 48 hours per week
- Every other weekend is required
- Floating within scope is required to meet facility needs
- Charting is performed using Cerner
Requirements
- Active WV or Compact RN license required; candidates with a pending RN license may be considered
- Current BLS certification required
- ONS or ONCC certification required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Telemetry experience required
- Proficiency with central line draws, ports, blood administration, PCA pumps, bone marrow aspiration assist, and PleurX chest tubes required
- Chemotherapy administration experience preferred; candidates without oncology experience may be considered if otherwise strong
- Driver's license and Social Security card required for consideration
- Minimum 2 manager or charge nurse references from within the past 2 years required for consideration
- Clean RN license required (cases with license hits submitted for case-by-case approval)

- This is a Level IV Trauma Center and major teaching hospital, a member of the Council of Teaching Hospitals and Health Systems (COTH)
- Scrub color for RNs is royal blue or white
- Parking is complimentary for travelers
- Flu vaccination is required during flu season (October 1 – March 31); a documented medical allergy on file from an allergist or physician is the only accepted exemption
- COVID vaccination is not required
- Candidates who were previously permanent employees cannot return as a traveler until 2 years after their last day of permanent employment
- Blocked schedule requests will be accommodated when possible
- Holiday RTO requests should be limited to no more than 1 of the 3 major holidays
- Candidates must reside beyond 100 miles from the facility; candidates within 75–99 miles may be submitted for facility approval
