Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery/Postpartum position in an acute care hospital setting, requiring 2-3 years of L&D experience and night shift availability.
Details
- Acute care hospital L&D/Postpartum unit with 7 L&D beds, 4 triage beds, 2 overflow beds, 27 postpartum beds with a 5-bed nursery, and 2 C-section suites with recovery
- Approximately 3 births per day (~1,545 per year), including high-risk deliveries across all gestational ages
- Patient population includes high-risk deliveries, substance abuse/withdrawal, limited prenatal care, and a large Spanish-speaking population; critically ill patients are transferred to a higher-level facility as needed
- OB and Neonatologist available on-call 24/7 with a 30-minute response time; Respiratory Therapy and Pharmacy available 24/7
- OB techs assist with C-section scrubbing, deliveries, supply stocking, and patient intake
- Nurses follow AWOHNN staffing ratio guidelines
- Fetal monitoring via FetalLink, which integrates with Cerner EMR; Cerner experience is relevant to this role
- Telemetry via Philips monitoring system
- 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM–7:30 AM
- Every other weekend (4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule) required
- Call is optional but preferred; candidates should be prepared to discuss availability during the interview
- L&D nurses are required to float to Postpartum and NICU (grower/feeder patients); Postpartum nurses float to L&D as needed
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active CA RN license required; must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses not accepted
- Required certifications (all must be active, no pending): BLS, ACLS, NRP, and Advanced Fetal Monitoring (AWHONN Intermediate or Advanced)
- S.T.A.B.L.E. certification preferred
- Minimum 2-3 years of L&D nursing experience required
- L&D nurses must have Postpartum experience; ability to circulate for C-sections required (scrub experience not required)
- Prior travel nursing experience preferred (at least one prior travel contract)
- Driver's license required for consideration
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and rehire eligibility
Additional Information
- Orientation consists of 3 floor-specific shifts (12 hours each)
- Navy scrubs required
- Holiday coverage is shared with permanent staff; travelers typically work one major and one minor holiday
- Candidates who have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year are not eligible; candidates placed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
- Local candidates are accepted for this position
- First-time travelers are not preferred; at least one prior travel contract is strongly encouraged
