Description
American Traveler is hiring a night shift RN - Med/Surg Tele with 2+ years of Med/Tele experience for a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital.
Details
- Med/Surg Telemetry unit within a Level 1 Trauma, teaching hospital with Chest Pain and Stroke Center designations
- 30-bed unit with post/pre cardiac and step-down ICU patient population
- Common diagnoses include CHF, COPD, STEMI, NSTEMI, and sepsis
- RN to patient ratio of 1:4-6 with 2-3 CNAs per shift
- 12-hour night shift schedule (7p-7a), 48 hours per week
- Weekend rotation of 6 shifts on a 6-week schedule
- No on-call or call-back requirements
- Central Telemetry Unit monitoring support available
- Uses EPIC EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and Phillips monitors
- Unit-specific equipment includes VS3 vital sign monitors, Nova Glucose Stat Strips, and PCA pain management
- Floating required to all Med/Surg Telemetry units in the facility
Requirements
- Active RN license (GA or Compact) required
- BLS and Basic Cardiac Rhythm (BCR) certification required, including EKG rhythm exam during onboarding
- ACLS and Medical-Surgical certification preferred but not required
- Minimum 2 years of Med/Tele RN experience required
- Minimum 12 months of core work experience in unit specialty area, with most recent experience within the last year
- Skilled in trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, and central line management
- Experience with insulin and heparin drip titration, and heart rate titration drips (BP drip titration not required)
- Strong clinical assessment skills suited for a Level 1 Trauma hospital setting
- Proficient in wound care, post-op monitoring, and cardiac telemetry interpretation
- EPIC EMR experience required
- 1 professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
Additional Information
- Provide comprehensive med-surg and telemetry nursing care including IV insertion, wound care, and cardiac monitoring
- Coordinate care with interdisciplinary teams including 24/7 RT, Hospitalist, and Intensivist support
- Support discharge planning and patient education, with emphasis on renal and fluid management
- CNAs assist with vitals, glucose checks, bathing, feeding, ambulation, and patient transport
- Unit secretary support available 7a-11p; house-wide call secretary 11p-7a
- Charge nurse present on each unit; resource team and discharge nurses float to support all units
- Dedicated PICC team available; most units use lab collect phlebotomy with nurse draws from CVLs
- Orientation includes 1 day of facility orientation with educational modules and 2 days of departmental orientation
- Scrub color requirement: Navy for RNs
- Free parking available on campus, with paid parking deck options
- Unit culture described as busy but team-oriented
- Travelers required to work 75% of holidays
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Local candidates accepted with no radius rule and same pay rate as travelers
- Returning employees must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year after a permanent position
