Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg travel position at an acute care hospital in Wheeling, WV, requiring at least 2 years of experience and Epic proficiency.
Details
- 13-week contract at an acute care hospital in Wheeling, WV
- Unit is a 30-bed Med/Surg overflow floor (6N)
- Common patient diagnoses include CHF, COPD, cellulitis, pneumonia, urosepsis, AKI, cholecystitis, and appendicitis
- Patient ratio is 1:6–7; candidates must be comfortable with a 1:7 ratio
- Telemetry is present on the unit and monitored remotely by monitor technicians
- Intermittent BiPAP is used; no ventilators on the unit
- RNs are required to titrate heparin drips based on aPTT results
- PCTs (Patient Care Technicians) are present on the unit
- One charge RN on the floor who also carries an assignment
- Charting is done in Epic
- 12-hour day shifts; scheduling managed through Qgenda
- Weekends scheduled as needed, typically every other weekend
- No on-call or standby requirement
- Travelers are floated first as needed based on census
Requirements
- Active WV or compact RN license required
- Current BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- BSN is not required
- Epic EMR experience required
- Copy of unexpired driver's license required for consideration
- Any licensing hits (disciplinary actions, restrictions, etc.) must be disclosed upfront
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
Additional Information
- Scrub color requirement: Navy Blue
- Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying
- Travelers may not work within the WVU system for longer than one cumulative year before a 2-year break is required
- 2 references are required: at least one supervisor reference and one peer or additional supervisor reference (e.g., Charge RN); if the candidate worked a permanent position in the last 12 months, one supervisor reference must be from that facility
- A skills checklist completed within the past year is required
- Copies of all required certifications must be submitted for consideration
- Work history covering the past 7 years (or from graduation, whichever is less) is required, with no gaps greater than 30 days
