Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Medical ICU (MICU) position requiring at least 1 year of recent ICU experience, with night shifts and float requirements to Med-Surg units.

Details

• Mixed MICU/PCU unit in an acute care hospital setting
• Patient population includes COPD, encephalopathy, drug overdose, DKA, AKI, respiratory failure, cardiac arrest, heart failure, and A-fib
• Patient ratios vary by acuity: 1:1 for cooling/CRRT/high acuity, 2:1 for vented patients, 3:1 for ICU/PCU mix, and up to 4:1 for PCU/general med/transfer patients
• Special procedures performed include CRRT, HD, A-line placement, CVC placement, trach placement, and chest tube placement
• Special equipment includes cooling machines, Bair Huggers, massive transfusion systems, and CRRT
• Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:30)
• Every other weekend required
• Float requirement to other ICU and Med-Surg units as census flexes; Med-Surg ratios are approximately 1:5–7

Requirements

• Active MI RN license required; pending MI license considered with a concrete ETA and proof of application at time of consideration
• Current AHA certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• Minimum 1 year of recent ICU experience required
• Proficiency in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation/management, and emergency response
• Experience with ventilator management, BiPAP/CPAP, HFNC, ABG interpretation, and care of ventilated patients
• Experience with arterial line management, central line care, PICC line management, and blood product administration
• Experience with continuous IV sedation, vasoactive drip titration, cardiac drip titration, and procedural sedation
• Experience with CRRT/CVVHD and renal failure management
• Experience with IV insulin protocols

• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• All RTO requests must be submitted prior to offer; requests received after offer must be coordinated with the on-site manager
• Holiday coverage is required
• No RTO permitted during the first two weeks of the assignment
• The unit averages approximately 3 ventilated patients per day
• Travelers float in rotation with staff RNs to Med-Surg units as ICU census fluctuates
