Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position with a focus on renal and limb preservation patients, requiring telemetry skills and dysrhythmia management on night shifts.

Details

  • 41-bed inpatient Med/Surg Telemetry unit with a focus on renal and limb preservation patients
  • Patient population includes ESRD, ARF, vascular procedures, CHF, diabetics, and diabetic foot ulcers
  • Hemodialysis patients receive treatments in a dedicated hemodialysis unit; peritoneal dialysis treatments are initiated on the unit by the dialysis team
  • Patient ratio of 1:5-6
  • Uses Epic (EMR), Pyxis, and SBAR communication
  • 12-hour night shifts (18:45–07:15), 3 shifts per week
  • 36 or 48 hours per week may be available
  • Every other weekend required
  • Floating is required
  • Self-scheduling based on unit needs
  • 13-week contract minimum; longer contracts may be considered

Requirements

  • Active NC or compact RN license required (may be pending at time of consideration)
  • Current BLS certification required
  • ACLS and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certifications preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant RN experience required
  • Telemetry experience required, including interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • Must pass an EKG test prior to start
  • Two professional references from a manager or supervisor within the past 12 months are strongly preferred; references must be on file by start date

Additional Information

  • Interdisciplinary team includes hospitalists, RN navigators, RNs, nursing assistants, dietary, PT/OT, and pharmacy, with daily team huddles
  • Orientation consists of 24 hours (2 preceptor shifts plus EMR education) with weekly orientation sessions; approximately 8–10 hours of pre-start online modules are also required
  • Scrubs are not provided; navy or white scrubs required
  • Candidates must be available for a manager interview prior to offer
  • Candidate must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
  • RTO is not permitted during the first week of assignment due to orientation; up to 7 days of non-holiday RTO may be auto-approved, with additional RTO requiring facility approval
  • Previous permanent, PRN, or EP employees of Novant Health or New Hanover Regional must wait 12 months before being considered as a traveler; facility rehire approval is required
  • Local candidates within 50 miles of the facility are accepted at a different rate
  • Travel pairs are welcome; each traveler must have their own transportation and be flexible with differing schedules
