Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a high-acuity Neuro ICU position in Oregon, requiring EVD management experience and an active OR RN license.
Details
- High-acuity Neuro IMC/ICU step-down unit managing complex neurological patients at a Magnet-designated, Level I Trauma academic teaching hospital
- Patient population includes ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke, status epilepticus, and post-craniotomy/neurosurgery cases
- Specialized procedures include post-thrombolytic care and management of external ventricular devices (EVDs) and lumbar drains
- Equipment includes Hamilton C1 ventilators and vasoactive medication management systems
- Patient ratio is 1:3
- Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:30), 36 hours per week
- Variable weekend requirements
- No on-call responsibilities
- Charting is performed in Epic (experience preferred but not required)
- Floating is required within the Acute Care division and may include an affiliated nearby hospital — refusal to float as requested may result in contract cancellation
- Local candidates are accepted at the same rate with no radius restriction
Requirements
- Active Oregon (OR) RN license required; pending license accepted if application has been submitted and received by the licensing board to qualify for the 90-day license exemption
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a PCU, DOU, IMC, or step-down setting required
- Required certifications: BLS and ACLS (AHA), plus 6 hours of stroke continuing education (CEs)
- Direct external ventricular device (EVD) management experience required
- Experience titrating vasoactive drips required
- Experience caring for ventilated patients required
- Two manager or supervisor references from within the last 24 months required — charge RN references are not acceptable
- COVID vaccination proof required with no exemptions
Additional Information
- This is a newly opening unit launching mid-contract; one week of orientation is provided
- Responsibilities include managing complex neuro patients, titrating vasoactive drips, caring for ventilated patients, and managing EVDs and lumbar drains
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Former employees or previous travelers at this health system must have been separated for at least 6 months before returning; a reference from the supervising manager at the facility is also required
- RTO is limited to a maximum of 5 days for a 13-week contract or 7 days for an 18-week contract; all RTO requests must be submitted upfront and may not exceed 2 consecutive weeks
- Approved RTO exceeding 5 days requires extending the contract end date to fulfill the full 13-week assignment
- Scrubs may be any solid color (no prints); scrubs are provided
- Parking costs $16/day (8am–5pm only); public transportation is strongly encouraged
