Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro ICU position at a Level I Trauma teaching hospital in New Mexico, requiring ACLS, BLS, and NIH certifications with specialized neuro critical care skills.
Details
- Neuro ICU setting within a 554-bed Level I Trauma, academic teaching hospital that also serves as a children's hospital
- Patient population includes TBI, SAH, SDH, tumor resections, status epilepticus, and other neurological disorders
- Patient ratio is 1:2 under standard conditions
- Night shift: 3x12-hour shifts, 19:00–07:30
- Weekends required based on unit needs
- No on-call required
- Travelers may be floated to other ICUs, PCU, ED (for admitted patients), or PACU (for admitted patients); med-surg level patients and 6:1 ratios possible but not standard
- Block scheduling may be accommodated but is not guaranteed
- Charting via Cerner
- Black scrubs required
- Free parking on-site
Requirements
- Active NM or Compact RN license required; pending license accepted
- Current certifications required: ACLS, BLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Minimum 1.5 years of ICU experience required
- Proficiency with specialized neuro critical care procedures: EVD insertions, neuro post-op care, A-line insertions, intubation, central line insertion, CRRT, post-TPA care, and post-thrombectomy care
- Experience with ICP monitoring required
- Ability to interpret and manage dysrhythmias
- Experience with EVD and CRRT equipment required
- Cerner EMR experience preferred
- Candidates must reside more than 100 miles from the facility to be eligible

- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Travelers may be asked to switch to the CTVICU (Cardiothoracic ICU) due to a new tower opening
- Travelers who have worked 4 consecutive assignments or reached the one-year mark require a 6-month break before returning
- RTO requests exceeding 7 days require approval; all time-off requests should be submitted upfront
- COVID vaccination is optional, but vaccination status must be reported to the facility
- There is a possibility of caring for neurological patients in a high-acuity environment alongside a multidisciplinary team
