Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for an Intermediate Care Unit (IMU) Stepdown position requiring at least 2 years of experience, ACLS/BLS/NIHSS certifications, and the ability to work 12-hour night shifts with weekend rotation.
Details
- 30-bed Intermediate Care Unit (IMU) with 14 private and 16 semi-private rooms in an acute care hospital setting
- Common patient diagnoses include chest pain, r/o MI, CHF, arrhythmias, post-pacer, pre/post cardiac cath (radial band management and removal, groin checks), and patients on Tikosyn therapy
- Patient ratio goal is 1:4, though 1:5 is typical and 1:6 is occasionally possible; CNA support of 2–3 aides with a 1:10–12 ratio
- RNs must be able to read and interpret their own telemetry strips; unit uses Nihon Kohden tele monitors
- RNs must be able to titrate drips including Amiodarone, Cardizem, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Labetalol, Nitro, Heparin, and occasionally Lasix
- All respiratory equipment (AirVo high-flow, Respironics BiPAP) is managed by Respiratory Therapy
- IV team is in-house 24/7 and performs all IV starts; PICC/Midline team also available
- Hospitalist and intensivist are in-house 24/7; residents are also in-house 24/7
- Pharmacy (Pyxis) and RT are available in-house 24/7
- EMR: Sunrise (Epic noted in posting)
- 12-hour night shifts; must be on unit ready by 6:45 PM; shifts run 7 PM – 7 AM
- Nights rotation requires 4 weekend shifts (Friday, Saturday, or Sunday) per 4-week schedule
- Floating required into Telemetry or Med/Surg units as needed, with ratios up to 1:6 (occasionally 1:7 in Med/Surg)
Requirements
- Active WV or Compact RN license required
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- BSN not required
- Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips independently
- Experience titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips
- Driver's license copy required for consideration
Additional Information
- Orientation consists of approximately 4 hours with HR on day one, followed by the remaining 8 hours on the unit with a preceptor, plus a full second day with a preceptor before working independently
- Self-scheduling is permitted as long as unit needs are met; staff may request up to 4 days off per month
- Travelers are expected to be flexible for holiday coverage, though permanent staff typically cover most holidays
- RN scrub dress code: navy blue top and bottom with navy scrub jacket; hoodies are not permitted
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
- Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying
- Travelers may not work within the WVU system for more than one cumulative year without a 2-year break
- A driver's license copy and all certifications must be included at time of consideration
- Any licensing hits must be disclosed upfront
