Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced OR RN for a 13-week travel contract in an acute care hospital setting in Wheeling, WV, requiring IV skills and surgical care knowledge including robotics experience.
Details
- Acute care hospital operating room setting with 15 suites and 55–70 cases per day
- Scope of practice includes preoperative care in the surgical center/pre-op area (not a freestanding surgical center)
- Common cases include all surgical procedures, both same-day and overnight stays
- IV skills and surgical care knowledge, including robotics, are essential to daily work
- EMR is currently Allscripts/Sunrise with an Epic go-live scheduled for April 1
- Day shift scheduling with either five 8-hour shifts (6am–2pm, 7am–3pm, 8am–4pm, or 9am–5pm) or four 10-hour shifts per week
- Occasional midnight shifts may be required to support operational demands
- Weekend rotation required: one scheduled 8-hour shift (7am–3pm, Saturday or Sunday) per scheduling period
- On-call requirement: 1–2 secondary call days per scheduling period, each consisting of a 24-hour call from 7am Saturday to 7am Sunday
- On-call response time is 30 minutes
- Floating to the OR holding area may be required
- Scrubs are provided by the facility
Requirements
- Active WV or compact RN license required
- Current BLS certification required
- Minimum 2 years of OR RN experience required
- Strong IV skills required
- Surgical care knowledge including robotics experience required
- Allscripts/Epic EMR experience preferred
- Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
- A copy of a valid, unexpired driver's license is required for consideration
- Any licensing hits must be disclosed upfront
Additional Information
- This OR position is focused on preoperative/surgical center care and is not a traditional scrub-in RN role — scrubbing is not required
- Orientation is completed on-site within the Surgical Center/Pre-Op department
- Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before being eligible to reapply
- Travelers may not work within the WVU system for more than one cumulative year without taking a 2-year break
- All candidates interview directly with a unit manager
- 2 professional references are required for consideration: 1 supervisor reference (from a permanent facility if worked within the last 12 months) and 1 peer or additional supervisor reference
