Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a PACU position requiring ACLS, PALS, TNCC, and telemetry interpretation skills across multiple recovery areas in an acute care hospital setting.
Details
- Works across multiple recovery areas including an inpatient PACU (7 bays), outpatient PACU (15 bays), Surgery Center (14 bays), and Anesthesia Clinic (6 rooms)
- Both Phase 1 and Phase 2 recovery care is provided across all four areas
- Recovers a wide range of surgical patients including general, neuro, thoracic, cath lab, and radiology cases; open heart patients go directly to the ICU
- ICU patients are recovered in the PACU with the exception of open heart cases
- Primarily 12-hour day shifts with variable start times (8a-8p, 9p-9p, or 11a-11p); 8- or 10-hour shifts may be considered based on department needs
- Up to 4 schedule requests per scheduling period are allowed, with flexibility based on unit needs; staff must be available to stay until cases are completed
- Weekend call requirement is one 24-hour call shift per month (7am-7am)
- Weekly call includes two overnight call shifts per month (11pm-7am)
- Holidays are covered through a shared call rotation with permanent staff (24-hour call, 7am-7am)
- PACU RNs float between inpatient and outpatient areas, as well as the Surgery Center and Anesthesia Clinic
- Telemetry monitoring is required; RNs must be able to read and interpret rhythm strips
- Ventilator management is handled by Respiratory Therapy
- RT available 24/7; pharmacy is in-house 24/7 with Pyxis access
- Allscripts (Sunrise) EMR is used
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active WV RN license or compact RN license required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Required certifications for PACU and Surgery Center: BLS, ACLS, PALS, and TNCC; BLS only required for Anesthesia Clinic
- NIHSS certification required
- Ability to read and interpret cardiac telemetry strips
- Valid, unexpired driver's license required for consideration
- BSN not required
Additional Information
- Orientation is 2-3 shifts
- Each recovery area has its own charge nurse who takes a patient assignment
- UA2s (cross-trained as nursing assistants and unit receptionists) support each area
- Scrubs are provided for all areas except the Anesthesia Clinic; Navy Blue scrubs must be provided by the nurse when working in the Anesthesia Clinic
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for the travel pay rate
- Any previous employment at a WVU Medicine location requires a 2-year break before returning as a traveler; travelers may not work within the WVU system for more than one cumulative year without taking a 2-year break
- Two supervisor/peer references are required, including one supervisor reference if the candidate held a permanent position within the last 12 months
- Any licensing hits or disciplinary history must be disclosed upfront
