Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position in an acute care Birthing Center, requiring a minimum of 2 years of LDRP experience and active WA or Compact RN license.
Details
- Acute care Birthing Center with 34 total L&D beds, 2 OR suites for C-sections, 2 triage beds, and 14 postpartum beds
- Averages 150–180 births per month; patient population includes high-risk cases 33 weeks and above, including preeclampsia, diabetic, psych/social, and positive illicit substance use
- Staffing ratios follow AWHONN guidelines: 1:2 for L&D and 1:3–4 for couplets
- RNs are required to titrate drips, including Magnesium, Pitocin, and Insulin
- EFM system used is Centricity Perinatal; PACU monitoring following C-sections is also performed
- EMR is Epic; Epic training is part of orientation
- 12-hour day shifts; every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday)
- Travelers must be able to function in both Labor and Postpartum, including routine mom and baby care, transitioning babies, and attending low-risk deliveries
- Free charge nurses on both shifts; one surgical tech available 24/7; patient care assistants with clerical duties on each shift
- 24/7 in-house OB/GYN hospitalist, NNP in the nursery, and OB anesthesia provider on unit
- Block scheduling available when requested
Requirements
- Active WA or Compact (NLC) RN license required; must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses are not accepted
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NRP certifications required; all must be active — pending certifications not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of LDRP experience required; candidates with 1 year of experience may be considered with significant prior travel nursing experience
- Must be comfortable attending deliveries independently and circulating in C-sections
- Must be comfortable assisting with catching and transitioning newborns
- Intermediate or advanced Fetal Heart Monitoring (FHM) certification preferred
- Epic EMR experience preferred
- Driver's license required for consideration
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
Additional Information
- First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
- Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility within the past year; candidates who worked PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
- Orientation consists of an 8-hour compliance day with the manager, an 8-hour Epic class, and 2–3 12-hour unit-specific orientation shifts
- Scrubs are provided; a locker is also provided
- Holiday coverage rotates with permanent staff
- Standby response time required is within 45 minutes
- The unit manager is communicative and provides active feedback; travelers should be open to adapting to unit workflows, policies, and procedures
