Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Cardiac Telemetry/Stepdown position at a Level II Trauma facility, requiring stepdown experience and the ability to titrate cardiac drips on night shifts.
Details
- Acute care hospital setting at a Level II Trauma Center
- Unit 6N is a 36-bed Cardiac Telemetry/PCU Stepdown unit with a higher acuity than a typical telemetry floor
- Patient population includes cardiac patients with diagnoses such as AMI, post-cath, post-PCI, respiratory failure, post-op lung surgery, chest tubes, and pacemakers; nurses do not pull sheaths and there are no arterial lines
- Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:5 (MedSurg/Tele acuity), rarely 1:6, and 1:4 for PCU acuity
- RNs are required to titrate cardiac drips including Cardizem, Amiodarone, Dobutamine, Dopamine, Integrilin, Heparin, Ativan, Lasix, and Nitro (up to 50 mcg)
- Philips telemetry monitors are in use; monitor techs are available, but RNs must be able to independently read and interpret telemetry strips
- CPAP and BiPap are present on the unit; Respiratory Therapy manages all respiratory equipment
- EMR: Epic
- 12-hour night shifts (7p–7a)
- Every-other-weekend requirement (Saturday and Sunday)
- Float requirement to any MedSurg/Telemetry unit as needed
- CNAs are assigned approximately 1 per every 9 patients; team nursing model pairs 1 RN with 1 CNA for 6–7 patients
- Charge nurse coverage is available 24/7; day charge does not carry a patient assignment, night charge does
Requirements
- Active WV RN license or a Compact RN license currently in hand
- Current BLS certification (AHA)
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Stepdown or PCU experience strongly preferred given the high acuity of this unit
- Demonstrated ability to titrate cardiac drips is required
- Experience reading and interpreting telemetry strips required
- Epic EMR experience preferred
- A valid, unexpired driver's license is required for consideration
- Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this travel position
Additional Information
- EKG testing (pass/fail) is required for this PCU/Stepdown unit prior to starting
- Travelers work into the holiday rotation alongside permanent staff
- Royal blue scrubs are required; artificial nails are not permitted
- Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a minimum 2-year break before reapplying
- Travelers may not work within the WVU system for longer than one cumulative year before taking a 2-year break
- A supervisor reference and a peer or additional supervisor reference are required for consideration; if the candidate worked a permanent position in the last 12 months, one supervisor reference must be from that facility
- A skills checklist completed within the past year is required for consideration
- Candidates may only be submitted to one WVU facility at a time
