Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg position at a Magnet-designated Level I Trauma Center, requiring at least 5 years of experience and EKG interpretation skills.
Details
- Night shift schedule, 4x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:30)
- Option to work 36 or 48 hours per week
- Medical-Surgical unit within a short-term acute care, Magnet-designated, Level I Trauma Center and teaching hospital
- Patient population includes geriatric trauma (55+), MVA/MVC/fall victims, abuse/violence victims, and acute care surgery patients (appendicitis, gallbladder, hernia repair, fistulas, wounds, burns, TBI)
- Patients sourced from the ED, OR, and ICU
- Patient ratio of 1:4–6
- Every other weekend required
- Floating within scope required to meet facility needs
- No on-call requirement
- EMR: Epic (experience required)
- Block scheduling is not available
- Special equipment includes lifts, restraints, wound vacs, traction, and external fixators
Requirements
- Active MO RN license or Compact RN license required; pending IL license may be accepted with notation
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Minimum 5 years of RN experience required
- Level I Trauma Center experience required
- Must pass a Relias EKG exam; EKG interpretation and dysrhythmia management required
- Proficiency in Med/Surg skills including: blood product administration, peripheral line care/management, phlebotomy, IV starts, insulin management, PCA, CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, oral suctioning, oxygen delivery devices, isolation precautions, and wound care/wound vac
- Experience with spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injury, ortho trauma, peripheral nerve block catheters, total joint replacements, surgical drains, and chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac) required
- Must reside more than 75 miles from the facility to be eligible
Additional Information
- Navy blue scrubs required
- RTO is limited to no more than 7 days per 13-week contract; no RTO during the first week of orientation
- Travelers may remain for up to 18 months, after which a 3-month break in service is required before returning
- Former permanent employees of the health system must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
- Parking passes are available for purchase through the facility's Public Safety department at varying costs depending on lot; night shift workers may park at no charge in employee parking
