Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg position at a Level I Trauma Center, requiring a minimum of 5 years of experience and a valid MO or compact RN license.

Details

• Night shift, 4x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:30)
• Option to work 36 or 48 hours per week
• Medical Surgical unit within a short-term acute care, Magnet-designated, academic teaching hospital and Level I Trauma Center
• Patient population includes geriatric trauma (55+), abuse/violence victims, MVA/MVC, falls, TBI, acute care surgery (appendicitis, gallbladder, hernia repairs, fistulas, burns), spinal cord injuries, ortho trauma, and total joint replacements
• Patients transfer in from the ED, OR, or ICU
• Patient ratios of 1:4–6
• Every other weekend required
• Floating within scope required to meet facility needs
• Block scheduling is not available
• No on-call requirements
• Epic EMR; experience required
• Specialized equipment includes lifts, restraints, wound vacs, traction, and external fixators

Requirements

• Active MO RN license or compact RN license valid in Missouri required at time of consideration; pending IL license may be accepted with notation
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Minimum 5 years of RN experience required
• Level I Trauma Center experience required
• Must pass a Relias EKG exam; cardiac dysrhythmia interpretation and management required
• Required clinical skills: blood product administration, peripheral line care/management, phlebotomy, IV insertion, insulin administration, PCA management, peripheral nerve block catheters, surgical drains, chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac), CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, nasal cannula and oxygen face mask use, portable oxygen, oral suctioning, isolation precautions, and wound care/wound vac
• Epic EMR experience required
• Candidates must reside more than 75 miles from the facility

Additional Information

• 13-week contract with the option to extend; candidates interested in a longer assignment should indicate their preference
• RTO is limited to no more than 7 days per 13-week contract, with no RTO permitted during the first week of orientation; missed shifts should be made up as soon as possible
• Travelers may remain for up to 18 months, after which a 3-month break in service is required before returning
• Former permanent employees of any BJC facility must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler

• Monthly parking passes are available for purchase through the facility's Public Safety department; parking costs vary by location and shift type
