  • Patient population includes solid tumor, orthopedic oncology, and thoracic oncology diagnoses, with a small med/surg census
  • PCU patient ratio is 1:3; med/surg telemetry ratio is 1:4-5
  • Day and night rotating shifts (3x12-hour shifts); scheduling assignments are reviewed every 4-week period based on staffing needs
  • Self-scheduling requests are submitted prior to the final schedule being posted
  • Floating required to units of equivalent or lower acuity
  • Equipment in use includes GE B450 telemetry monitors, Alaris pumps, PCA pumps, Stryker beds, bladder scanners, and continuous bladder irrigation systems

Requirements

  • Active OH or Compact RN license required
  • Required certifications: BLS (BCLS), ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)

  • Oncology experience preferred but not required
  • Proficiency with telemetry and dysrhythmia interpretation required
  • Required clinical skills include: central line care/management, PICC line management, port access, blood product administration, peripheral IV insertion, heparin protocols, cardiac drip management, PCA management, chest tube care (Emerson/Pleur-evac), tracheostomy management, feeding tube care, external CPAP/BiPAP, high flow nasal cannula (HFNC), ABG interpretation, and use of rapid response teams
  • 2 professional references required: at least 1 must be from a Manager, Director, or Supervisor; a Charge RN is acceptable as the second reference — co-worker references are not accepted

Additional Information

  • Preferred skills include: chemotherapy administration and monitoring, arterial line management, wound care/wound vac, IV insulin and insulin drip titration, non-invasive airway management, phlebotomy, and surgical drain management
  • Orientation consists of one week of Monday–Friday day shift orientation followed by a second week of 36 hours of on-unit orientation with a preceptor

  • Former employees of the facility are eligible for a travel assignment after a 6-month separation period
  • RTO must be submitted upfront and is limited to 7 days or less for the contract duration
  • Local candidates are accepted at the same rate as travelers
  • Parking is available for purchase on-site through the hospital's campus parking program

Pros

Units are nice, staff are kind. Single patient rooms with 4:1 ratios day and night on med surg.

Cons

Scheduled every weekend, floated for the first 6 weeks of contract every shift. Not traveler friendly even though they say they are. Staff are treated well not travelers.
