Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Oncology unit position requiring 2+ years of inpatient experience and the ability to administer chemotherapy.
Details
- Inpatient Med/Surg unit with a primarily medical-surgical patient population with oncology history
- Patient diagnoses include AKI, sepsis, cancer, septic shock, pain, OD, malignant neoplasms, ARF, encephalopathy, FTT, diabetic foot ulcers, and heparin drips
- Chemotherapy and biotherapy administration via IV, PO, or injection is performed on this unit
- Unit census of 42 with a target nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:6; ratios may be higher during increased census periods
- Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (18:45–07:15)
- Every other weekend required
- Floating required to similar units and alternate care locations, including inpatient holding in the ED
- Call required if called off on a pre-scheduled shift; called-out shifts must be rescheduled
- Contract staff will be assigned to a Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team and may be required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualty incidents, or disasters
- EMR: Epic; Medication dispensing: Pyxis
- Contract length: 13–26 weeks
Requirements
- Active NC RN license or compact RN license (may submit with license pending)
- Current BLS certification required
- Oncology certification (OCN) preferred
- Minimum 2 years of relevant RN experience required
- Inpatient hospital experience required
- Required skills: Med/Surg, colostomy care, port access, blood product administration, central line blood draw, peripheral line care/management, PICC line management, heparin drips, insulin, surgical drains, chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac), nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, isolation precautions, and wound care/wound vac
- Ability to administer chemotherapy required
- EKG test must be passed prior to start
- Two professional references from a manager or supervisor within the past 2 years required (pending at time of consideration is acceptable)
- CPI certification and charge nurse experience preferred
Additional Information
- Orientation consists of 2 shifts (24 hours) plus 8–10 hours of pre-start online modules (completed via online learning, Zoom, webinar, or in-person classes); modules are also required annually
- Attendance at monthly staff meetings is expected
- Scrub color requirement: navy blue and white
- Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- Up to 7 days of RTO may be auto-approved as long as it does not fall on a holiday; no RTO is permitted during the first week of assignment due to orientation
- Previous permanent, PRN, or EP employees of this health system must wait 12 months before being considered as a traveler; facility rehire approval is required
- Local candidates are accepted; candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility are subject to a different pay rate
- Travel pairs are allowed but must have their own transportation and be comfortable with potentially different schedules
