Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Medical/Surgical unit at a Level I Trauma Center and Magnet-designated teaching hospital, requiring at least 5 years of experience and Level I Trauma background.
Details
- Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:30)
- Option to work 36 or 48 hours per week
- Acute care Med/Surg unit at a short-term acute care hospital with 1,266 staffed beds — a Magnet-designated, academic teaching facility and Level I Trauma Center
- Patient population includes geriatric trauma (55+), trauma cases (abuse/violence, MVA, falls), and acute care surgery (appendicitis, gallbladder, hernia repairs, fistulas, wounds, burns, TBI); patients originate from the ED, OR, or ICU
- Patient ratio of 1:4–6
- Procedures and skills required include blood product administration, peripheral line care/management, phlebotomy, IV starts, insulin administration, PCA management, wound care/wound vac, chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac), peripheral nerve block catheters, surgical drains, CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, and respiratory support modalities
- Specialized patient conditions include spinal cord injuries, TBI, ortho trauma, and total joint replacements
- Special equipment in use: lifts, restraints, wound vacs, traction, and external fixators
- Charting via Epic (experience required)
- Floating within scope required to meet facility needs
- Every other weekend required
- No on-call requirements
- Scrub color: Navy Blue
Requirements
- Active MO RN license required at time of consideration; compact license accepted if MO is included
- Minimum 5 years of RN experience required
- Level I Trauma experience required
- Current certifications: BLS and ACLS
- Must pass a Relias EKG exam; EKG interpretation and dysrhythmia management experience required
- Epic EMR experience required
- Must reside more than 75 miles from the facility; local candidates are not accepted
- Candidates must not be former permanent employees of any BJC facility within the past year
Additional Information
- Care for a diverse trauma and surgical patient population, including management of complex wounds, respiratory support devices, orthopedic hardware, and post-surgical recovery
- No RTO permitted during the first week of orientation; no more than 7 days of RTO per 13-week contract
- Travelers may remain at this health system for up to 18 months, after which a 3-month break in service is required
- Parking is available via monthly passes at nearby lots and garages; costs vary by location and shift type — night shift workers park at no charge in employee parking
- 13-week contract minimum; longer contracts may be available upon request
