Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Trauma unit requiring 5 years of experience and Level I/II Trauma background.
Details
- Medical Surgical unit at a Level I Trauma Center within a Magnet-designated teaching hospital
- Patient population includes geriatric trauma, trauma victims (abuse, MVA/MVC, falls), and acute care surgery patients (appendicitis, gallbladder, hernia repair, burns, TBI)
- Patients typically transfer from ED, OR, or ICU
- Patient ratio of 1:4-6
- Night shift, 3x12 hours (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
- Can sign for 36 or 48 hours per week
- Every other weekend required
- No on-call requirements
- Floating required within service line to meet facility needs
- EPIC charting system used, experience required
Requirements
- Active MO or compact RN license required (pending license accepted)
- BLS and ACLS certifications required
- BSN, CPI, NIHSS, and TNCC certifications preferred
- Minimum 5 years of RN experience required
- Level I and Level II Trauma experience required
- Teaching hospital experience preferred
- Previous charge experience preferred
- Prior travel experience required
- Must pass Relias EKG exam covering interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Skilled in blood product administration, peripheral line care, phlebotomy, IV starts, insulin administration, and PCA management
- Experience with spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injury, ortho trauma, peripheral nerve block catheters, and total joint replacements
- Competency in chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac), CPAP/BiPAP, high flow nasal cannula, and oxygen therapy devices
- Wound care and wound vac experience required
- Isolation precautions and PPE knowledge required
- Must be clean-shaven or have facial hair compatible with respirator fit testing, no exceptions
Additional Information
- Provide direct medical-surgical nursing care to trauma, acute care surgery, and geriatric trauma patients
- Utilize specialized equipment including lifts, restraints, wound vacs, traction, and external fixators
- Navy blue scrubs required
- Must reside outside a 75-mile radius of the facility; local candidates are not accepted
- Maximum of 7 days RTO per 13-week contract, with no RTO permitted during the first week of the assignment
- Standard travelers may work up to an 18-month period before requiring a 3-month break in service
- Former permanent employees of BJC or Saint Luke's must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
- Lab work must be completed within 48-72 hours of contract signing
- First-time travelers may be considered for this position
