Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced ED RN for a Zone 3 Float Pool position covering multiple emergency departments in the Denver metro area, requiring strong ER skills and the ability to float across facilities within a 60-mile zone.
Details
- Acute care emergency department setting with no fixed home base facility — traveler floats across all Zone 3 ERs: OrthoColorado Hospital (Lakewood), Longmont United Hospital (Longmont), St. Anthony Hospital (Lakewood), and St. Anthony North Hospital (Westminster)
- Facilities within the float zone vary in size and designation, including Trauma Level 3 and non-designated trauma centers; majority are STEMI and stroke-receiving facilities
- Common patient diagnoses include abdominal pain, diabetes, NSTEMI, pneumonia, trauma, stroke, and hypertension
- Patient volume ranges from 40–168 patients per day depending on location
- Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4–5 based on acuity
- ER holds are intermixed within the ED; no separate psych/seclusion rooms
- Respiratory therapy is available 24/7
- No monitor technician on unit — RNs are required to independently read and interpret telemetry strips
- Nurses will be trained to perform Point-of-Care lab testing
- Tech support is available to assist with unit secretary duties, floor nursing tasks, and triage
- Charge nurse is present and takes an assignment; house supervisor support is also available
- Epic EMR is used
- 12-hour night shifts
- Every other weekend required
- Every other holiday required
- Schedules are released 4–6 weeks in advance; travelers are expected to be flexible and help fill scheduling gaps
- Scheduling follows one of two formats: either assigned to a single facility for the full week (with possible floating within that facility), or Just-In-Time (JIT) assignment with facility notification 1–2 hours before shift start
- No on-call or standby requirement
Requirements
- Active CO RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license currently in hand — pending licenses are not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of emergency department RN experience required
- Required certifications (all must be active, AHA-issued, and in hand — no pending certifications accepted): ACLS, BLS, PALS, NIHSS, and TNCC
- Epic EMR experience
- Ability to independently read and interpret cardiac telemetry strips
- Must reside at least 60 miles from the Denver city center (the zone's geographic hub) — a valid driver's license is required for address verification
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, each including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Copy of driver's license required for consideration
Additional Information
- This is a true float pool position — there is no home base facility, and travelers must be prepared to work at any of the four Zone 3 ER locations
- Travelers are responsible for securing housing that allows them to respond to any facility within the full 60-mile zone, regardless of where they choose to stay
- Candidates must not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility within the past year; candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
- Orientation is 2–3 days; clinicians must be physically present in state for the week of orientation even if initial modules are completed remotely
- Navy blue scrubs are required
- Interviews are conducted by the staffing agency's clinical team — no unit manager involvement
