Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry Float Pool position in the Colorado Springs zone, requiring 2 years of MS-Tele experience and the ability to float across multiple facilities within a 60-mile radius.

Details

  • Acute care hospital setting with no single home base facility — travelers are assigned across Zone 1, which covers facilities within a 60-mile radius of Colorado Springs, CO
  • Float pool covers a wide range of units including General MS-Tele, Cardiac, Neuro, Oncology, Rehab, Renal, Bariatrics, Ortho, Trauma, and ED Obs
  • Patient population includes adults and geriatrics with diagnoses spanning cardiac, neuro, ortho, oncology, renal, urology post-surgical, general surgery, gynecology, psych/detox, ENT, and general medicine
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5–6 based on acuity
  • May be asked to float into other acuity levels including ICU (low acuity holds), PCU/Stepdown, and MS-Tele
  • RNs are required to titrate Heparin drips
  • Respiratory therapy equipment including vents, CPAP, and BiPAP is used on the unit
  • EMR: Epic
  • Night shift, 12-hour shifts (7p–7a)
  • 6–9 weekend shifts required per 6-week schedule
  • Schedules are set by leadership on a 6-week rolling basis; travelers are expected to be flexible and help fill gaps in permanent staff scheduling
  • Scheduling follows one of two formats: assignment to a single facility for the week (with possible intra-facility floating), or Just-In-Time (JIT) assignment with unit notification 1–2 hours before shift start
  • 13-week contract

Requirements

  • Active CO RN license or Compact (NLC) license required — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
  • Active certifications required: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), and NIHSS — pending certifications not accepted
  • Minimum 2 years of MS-Tele nursing experience required
  • Prior neuro experience preferred
  • Permanent residence must be at least 60 miles from the Colorado Springs city center (the zone's geographic center) — a valid driver's license is used to verify permanent address
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
  • Copy of valid driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Travelers are responsible for securing housing that allows them to float throughout the full 60-mile Zone 1 radius, regardless of personal housing location
  • Zone 1 facilities include locations in Colorado Springs, Pueblo, and Cañon City, CO
  • Designated charge nurses on each unit; charge typically does not carry a patient assignment, though night shift charge nurses may occasionally take a small assignment
  • CNAs are available on the unit
  • All time-off requests must be submitted prior to the start of the assignment
  • May be asked to participate in the holiday rotation
  • On-call or standby requirements are rare and typically related to low census
  • Orientation is 12 hours; clinicians must be physically present in-state for the week of orientation even if initial modules are completed remotely
  • Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility within the past year; candidates who worked PRN through an outside staffing firm will be considered
