Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry Float Pool position in the Colorado Springs area, requiring 2 years of MS-Tele experience and the ability to float across a 60-mile zone.

Details

  • Acute care setting within a regional float pool covering Zone 1, based around Colorado Springs, CO
  • Float pool includes multiple unit types: General MS-Tele, Cardiac, Neuro, Oncology, Rehab, Renal, Bariatrics, Ortho, Trauma, and ED Obs
  • Adult and geriatric patient population with diagnoses including cardiac, neuro, ortho, oncology, renal, urology, post-surgical, gynecology, psych/detox, ENT, and general medicine
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5-6 based on acuity
  • RNs may be required to titrate Heparin drips
  • Respiratory therapy equipment including vents, CPAP, and BiPAP is in use on these units
  • Charting is performed in Epic; experience is required
  • 12-hour evening and night shifts (3p–3a)
  • 6–9 weekend shifts required per 6-week schedule
  • Floating is required throughout Zone 1, which spans up to 60 miles from the Colorado Springs city center and includes multiple facilities
  • Schedules are set by leadership 4–6 weeks in advance in 6-week blocks; travelers are expected to be flexible to fill scheduling gaps
  • Shift assignments may follow a set weekly facility schedule or a Just-In-Time (JIT) model with facility assignment communicated 1–2 hours before shift start
  • May be asked to float into varying acuity levels including ICU (low acuity holds), PCU/Stepdown, and MS-Tele
  • Nurse aides are available on the units
  • 13-week contract

Requirements

  • Active CO state RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license required; pending licenses are not accepted
  • Active certifications required: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), and NIHSS; pending certifications are not accepted
  • Minimum 2 years of MS-Tele nursing experience required
  • Prior neuro experience preferred
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Permanent residence must be at least 60 miles from the Colorado Springs city center (the zone's city center) to qualify; a valid driver's license is used to confirm permanent address
  • 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
  • Copy of driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

  • This is a true float pool position with no home base facility — travelers are assigned to different facilities within Zone 1 each schedule
  • Zone 1 facilities span up to 46 miles from Colorado Springs city center; travelers are responsible for securing housing that allows them to float throughout the full zone
  • Designated charge nurses are on each unit and typically do not carry a patient assignment, though night shift charge nurses may occasionally take a small patient load
  • All time-off requests must be submitted prior to the start of the assignment
  • Holiday rotation coverage may be required
  • On-call or standby requirements are rare and typically related to low census
  • Orientation is 12 hours; travelers must be physically present in-state for the week of orientation even if initial modules are completed remotely
  • Candidates may not have been directly employed full-time, part-time, or PRN by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility within the past year; candidates previously placed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
