Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Surgical PCU position at a large academic teaching hospital, requiring a minimum of 2 years of experience and proficiency in high-acuity post-surgical care.
Details
- Surgical Progressive Care Unit (PCU) with near-ICU level acuity in an academic teaching hospital setting
- Patient population includes ENT (neck dissections, mandibulectomy), thoracic (esophagectomy, lobectomy, pneumonectomy), general surgery (pancreatic, bowel/liver resections), urology (urinary diversions, cystectomies, RPLND), and medical overflow
- Staffing ratio of 1:3–4
- Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts, 19:00–07:30
- Every other weekend required; consecutive weekends may be required based on operational needs
- Floating required to different levels of care (Med-Surg, PCU, ICU) within the hospital and to an affiliate hospital; refusal to float may result in contract termination
- Charge nurse responsibilities may be assigned as needed, with training and resources provided
- Cerner charting experience required
Requirements
- Active IN or Compact RN license currently in hand
- Nursing degree from an ACEN- or CCNE-accredited program required
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; AHA and RQI formats accepted
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Proficiency in cardiac monitoring (on-unit)
- Experience with chest tube management, fresh trachs, feeding tube care, epidurals, and post-surgical patient care
- Experience with non-titratable cardiac drips, IV insulin protocols, and insulin drip titration
- Experience with external BiPAP/CPAP, total laryngectomy care, and Doppler flap checks
- SSN and DOB required for consideration
- 2 supervisor references required for consideration
Additional Information
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Indiana residents are not accepted for this position
- As a teaching facility, travelers must be willing to precept or have students shadow them during their assignment
- Candidates must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- Former permanent or PRN employees of IU Health must have a 12-month break before applying as a traveler
- Travelers who have accrued 12 months of travel employment within IU Health must take a consecutive break to reset eligibility: out-of-state residents require a 90-day break; in-state residents require a 180-day break
- Up to 5 days of RTO may be auto-approved
