Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an ICU/PCU Float position requiring Epic proficiency and comfort working across all ICU and PCU units in a Level I Trauma Center setting.
Details
- Float position covering all ICU and PCU units within an acute care teaching hospital
- Level I Trauma Center (Adult & Pediatrics) with Magnet designation for nursing excellence
- Advanced specialty care environment affiliated with a medical school
- ICU patient ratio averages 2:1; PCU patient ratio averages 5:1
- Clinical skills required include arterial line management, central/PICC line care, blood product administration, and IV initiation & maintenance
- Respiratory support responsibilities include BiPAP, CPAP, and ventilated patient care
- Medication administration includes continuous IV sedation, emergency medications, and titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
- Wound care includes surgical wounds with drains and wound vacs
- Cardiac monitoring duties include dysrhythmia interpretation and management
- IV insulin protocol adherence required
- Epic EMR experience required
- Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (6:45 PM – 7:15 AM); 4x12 schedule available by request
- Staffing needs are re-evaluated every 4 hours, meaning travelers may float 2–3 times per shift
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week scheduling block
- One holiday must be worked per 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active Virginia state RN license or Compact RN license required; pending license accepted only if candidate holds a single-state license from a non-compact state
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Minimum 2 years of ICU experience preferred
- Experience at a large Level I or Level II facility required
- Proficiency in arterial line management, central/PICC line care, BiPAP/CPAP, ventilator management, vasoactive drip titration, and wound vac care
- Two professional references required for consideration
- Copy of driver's license and Social Security card required for consideration
Additional Information
- Must be clinically comfortable working across all ICU and PCU units as a float
- This is a 703-bed academic teaching hospital and the region's only Level I Trauma Center for adults and pediatrics
- Hospital is Magnet-designated and certified as an Advanced Thrombectomy Capable Stroke Center
- All requested time off (RTO) must be submitted at the time of application
- Local candidates are accepted
