Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an outpatient Oncology/Hematology Clinic position specializing in classical (non-malignant) hematology, with phlebotomy skills required and a Monday–Friday day shift schedule.
Details
- Outpatient hematology clinic setting specializing in classical, non-malignant hematology (bleeding disorders, hemophilia, anemias, sickle cell, DVTs) — malignant hematology and oncology are not treated in this clinic
- Adult hematology patient population; average daily census of 70 patients
- Procedures include phlebotomy, central line access, bone marrow biopsy assistance, EKGs, vaccinations, phone triage, and patient education
- Chemotherapy and infusions are not administered in this clinic
- EMR: Epic (Acute Activation access required)
- 13-week contract with potential for extension
- Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM (5x8-hour shifts)
- No call, float, or weekend requirements
- Clinic is closed on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year's Day, and Martin Luther King Jr. Day
Requirements
- Active NC RN license or compact RN license (may submit with license pending)
- Current BLS certification required
- Minimum 2 years of relevant RN experience required; acute oncology or hematology experience will be considered
- Phlebotomy skills are required
- Must bring a personal stethoscope
- Epic EMR experience required
Additional Information
- Preferred certifications include ONS, BMTCN, or OCN; outpatient oncology clinic experience is preferred
- Responsibilities include rooming patients, phlebotomy, central line care, assisting with bone marrow biopsies, vaccinations, EKGs, phone triage, scheduling facilitation for infusions, patient education, and case management
- Orientation is approximately 24 hours; pre-start modules (4–5 hours for non-acute roles) must be completed prior to the start date and annually thereafter
- Navy blue scrubs required; not provided by the facility
- Two professional references from a manager or supervisor within the past 12–24 months are highly preferred; references must be on file prior to start
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Candidates who previously worked for Novant Health or New Hanover Health as permanent, PRN, or EP staff must have a 12-month gap before being eligible to apply as a traveler; prior employment history and dates must be disclosed
- RTO is not permitted during the first week of the assignment due to orientation; up to 7 days of RTO may be auto-approved as long as it does not fall on a holiday
- Candidates must be available to work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- Local candidates are accepted; candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility are eligible at a modified local rate
- Travel pairs are permitted; each traveler must have their own transportation and be comfortable with potentially different schedules
