Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced Emergency Department RN for a night shift travel assignment at a critical access hospital in Maine, requiring a ME or compact RN license and a minimum of 1 year of ED experience.

Details

  • Work setting is a 15-bed critical access hospital with a 4-bed ED, 10 M/S beds, and 5 Tele beds
  • General ED patient population ranging from neonates to geriatrics, including abdominal pain, CHF, chest pain, trauma, respiratory illnesses, seizures, animal bites, and admitted holds
  • Required skills include ICU holdovers, insulin drips, cardiac drips, vasoactive drips, central lines, BiPAP, ventilator management (with MD for settings), procedural sedation, RSI, and triage
  • RN patient ratio is 1:4 (acuity dependent) on both shifts, with Med-Surg RNs cross-trained to provide backup support
  • Night shift: 6:30 PM – 7:00 AM, 36 hours per week
  • Every other weekend rotation required
  • In-house floating to Med/Surg or Telemetry patients as needed (typically very limited)
  • Charting system is Cerner; experience preferred
  • Equipment used includes Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, GE monitors, Hamilton T1 ventilators, and LifePak 20 defibrillators

Requirements

  • Active RN license — ME state license or compact license required
  • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and PALS; TNCC and NRP preferred
  • Minimum 1 year of ED experience required; 2 years preferred
  • Cerner EMR experience preferred
  • Must have a permanent address 100+ miles south/southwest of Bangor, ME (489 State St, Bangor, ME 04401)
  • Must not have previously worked at any Northern Light Health Hospital in a permanent capacity
  • Two professional references within the past year required, with at least one from a supervisor, manager, director, or charge nurse (no peer references)
  • Copies of all current certifications required for consideration
  • Full SSN, driver's license, and COVID vaccination documentation required for consideration
  • Flu vaccination required for clearance to start

Additional Information

  • Unit orientation is 3–4 days on the unit; no formal hospital-wide orientation
  • Charge nurse is present and carries a patient assignment; nursing supervisor and nurse manager may assist with patient care when available
  • Phlebotomy support is available on the unit
  • No respiratory therapists on staff — RNs manage ventilator settings in collaboration with the physician
  • Travelers are expected to cover at least 1–2 holidays based on the rotation schedule, but will not be required to work every holiday
  • Scrubs must be a solid color and professional in appearance
  • Free parking available on-site
