Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a high-acuity Level II Emergency Department position requiring at least 2 years of critical care experience, TNCC certification, and proficiency with advanced clinical skills.

Details

  • Work in a 71-bed Emergency Department that operates at high acuity, functioning at a Level I capacity while designated as a Level II Trauma Center
  • Patient population includes multi-system trauma, STEMI, stroke, CHF, COPD, GI, GU, OB/GYN, pediatrics, and psychiatric cases
  • Patient ratios: 1:4 (ER), 1:5 (MS holds), 1:3 (ICU holds)
  • EMR: Cerner; IV pumps: Plum 360; medication dispensing: Omnicell; monitors: Spacelabs
  • Shift options: 7a–7p, 7p–7a, 11a–11p, or 3p–3a (12-hour shifts)
  • 36 hours per week standard scheduling on a 4-week schedule cycle
  • Every other weekend required, or 4 weekend days per month on a block schedule
  • No on-call or floating requirements
  • Unit support includes CNAs (1:12 ratio), receptionist/HUC, charge nurse, phlebotomy (until 3:00 AM), IV/VAT team, and hospitalists

Requirements

  • Active AL or Compact RN license required
  • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC, NIHSS, and Secure/CPI (nationally recognized/JACHO-accepted)
  • First-time travelers must have at least 2 years of experience with Cerner or Epic, plus Level II Trauma or higher experience
  • Experienced travelers must have at least 2 years of critical care experience (ICU, ER, or MS hold) with the most recent year in a Level II or higher ER
  • Cerner or Epic EMR experience preferred
  • Proficiency in: trach care, vent care, ICU drip management, chest tube, arterial line, CVL, PICC, midline, port access, Foley catheterization, splint/ortho device application, BiPAP/high-flow oxygen, and continuous bladder irrigation
  • One reference from a charge nurse or above from within the past 12 months required for consideration
  • DOB (day and month) and full SSN required for consideration
  • Copies of all certifications required for consideration
  • Candidates must reside more than 60 miles from the facility to be eligible

Additional Information

  • Orientation consists of 24 hours of classroom time followed by 24 hours of on-unit orientation for new or returning travelers absent for 1 or more years; orientation for rehires varies based on time since last assignment
  • Interviews are conducted via SimpliFi and are required — no auto-offers
  • Scrub color: any solid color; parking is available in an on-site parking garage
  • Holiday coverage requires one major and one minor seasonal holiday per facility policy; specific holiday scheduling is not contractually guaranteed prior to arrival
  • Blackout dates restrict RTO during specific periods throughout the year, including MLK Day weekend, Valentine's Day week, the entire month of March, Easter weekend, Mother's Day weekend, Memorial Day week, Father's Day weekend, Fourth of July, Labor Day weekend, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas through New Year's
  • Up to 7 days of RTO may be approved, excluding blackout dates
  • Former permanent staff must wait 6 months before being considered for a travel assignment at this facility
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply provided they meet the stated experience requirements
