Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med-Surg/Tele position at a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital, requiring 2 years of experience and an active GA or compact RN license.
Details
- Work on a 20-bed Med-Surg/Telemetry unit within a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital
- Care for a diverse patient population including stroke and brain injury patients, post-op surgical patients, and those with acute or chronic disease and co-morbidities such as diabetes, hypertension, infections, CHF, and electrolyte imbalances
- RN to patient ratio of 1:4-6
- 12-hour day shifts (7a-7p), 36 hours per week
- Weekend rotation of 6 shifts within a 6-week schedule
- No on-call or call-back requirements
- Floating required to all adult med-surg/telemetry units in the facility
- Unit supported by CNAs, unit secretary, charge nurse, resource/discharge nurses, 24/7 RT, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage
- Central Telemetry Unit monitors cardiac telemetry
- Uses EPIC EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and Phillips monitors
Requirements
- Active RN license (GA or Compact) required
- BLS and BCR (basic cardiac rhythm) certification required
- ACLS certification preferred
- Medical-Surgical national certification preferred but not required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Strong clinical assessment and med-surg nursing skills suited for a Level 1 Trauma hospital
- Experience with trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, glucomander, insulin drips, and heparin drips required
- Experience with IV insertion/care, central line management, wound care, and post-op monitoring required
- Cardiac monitoring and telemetry interpretation skills required
- EPIC EMR experience required
- One professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN required
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
Additional Information
- Provide med-surg and telemetry nursing care including discharge planning, patient education, and care coordination with interdisciplinary teams, particularly on renal and fluid management
- Facility is a 637-licensed-bed Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital with Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center designations
- Unit culture is described as busy but team-oriented
- Orientation includes 1 day of facility orientation with educational modules and 2 days of departmental orientation
- Scrub color required: Navy for RNs
- Free parking available on campus, with paid parking deck options
- Travelers will work approximately 75% of holidays
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Local GA candidates accepted with no radius rule and same pay rate as travelers
- Returning employees must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year after working a permanent position there
