Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position at a Level III Perinatal Center and teaching hospital in Milwaukee, WI, requiring a minimum of 2 years of L&D experience with high-risk perinatal care.

- Labor and Delivery unit within a 228-bed Level III Perinatal Center, Level III NICU, and Level IV Trauma Center teaching hospital located in Milwaukee, WI
- High-risk patient population including high-risk mothers and newborns, placenta accreta, pre-eclampsia, COVID, massive transfusions, tubal ligation, cerclage, and hysterectomy cases
- Averages approximately 280 deliveries per month
- Patient ratios follow AWHONN staffing guidelines: 1:1–2 for active labor, 1:3 for antepartum
- Responsibilities include fetal monitoring, maternal assessments and interventions, cervical exams, OB triage, assisting with circulating C-sections (as secondary nurse only), primary nurse for vaginal deliveries, surgical recovery, postpartum care, and high-risk newborn care
- 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM–7:30 PM, 36 hours per week
- No set schedule; must be available to work any day of the week based on unit needs
- Every other weekend rotation required
- Every other holiday required based on start date
- No on-call requirement; however, candidates must be available for callback in low census situations
- Floating required to Postpartum and Women's Care Center (inpatient non-pregnant women's unit); travelers float first
- Charting system: Epic (experience required); equipment includes Alaris pumps, Pyxis, fetal monitoring systems, and epidural pumps
Requirements
- Active WI RN license or a compact RN license currently in hand
- Current certifications required: BLS, NRP, and FHM
- Minimum 2 years of L&D experience required
- Level III Perinatal Care experience is required — must have provided care for high-risk mothers and newborns (no exceptions)
- Proficiency with Epic EMR required
- Minimum 1 professional reference from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN dated within the last year
- COVID vaccine required
- Candidate DOB and last 4 digits of SSN required for consideration
- Candidate middle name or initial required for consideration
Additional Information
- This position is at an Accreta Center of Excellence and Advanced Comprehensive Stroke Center teaching hospital with OB/GYN residents, family practice physicians, and certified nurse midwives
- Support team includes a charge nurse, clinical resource nurse, phlebotomy (shared role with RN), respiratory therapy, house supervisor, OB/GYN providers, certified nurse midwives, and OB anesthesia available onsite 24/7
- Orientation begins with a nurse manager meeting for onboarding, followed by unit training on day one, preceptor training on day two, and an independent patient assignment with a work buddy on day three
- Scrubs are provided by the facility
- Free parking is available in designated areas
- Local candidates are accepted
- First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
- Former employees of Advocate Health or any of its subsidiaries must have been separated for at least 12 months before being eligible
