Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a 13-week Emergency Department travel assignment at a Level IV Trauma Center, requiring 2 years of ED experience and active MI licensure.
Details
- Emergency Department (ER) in an acute care hospital setting, Level IV Trauma Center with no stroke or STEMI receiving capabilities — these patients are transferred out
- 14-bed ED with 2 trauma bays, a 3-room Fast Track area, and 2 dedicated triage rooms
- Travelers are eligible to perform triage after reviewing and demonstrating understanding of facility policies and procedures
- Patients are primarily held within the department, with overflow managed in an attached ACU
- Dedicated psych/seclusion room capability with flexible room conversion as needed
- Daily ED volume averages 40–60 patients
- Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:3–4 during the day, with higher ratios possible at night; after 3am, staffing reduces to 2 RNs until 7am
- Common patient presentations include traumas, strokes, STEMIs, MVAs, hunting injuries, and agricultural accidents, with variable drip requirements
- ED is staffed with both ED physicians and mid-levels, with an ED physician in-house 24/7
- Support staff includes 24/7 CNA/huck coverage, paramedics, LPNs (floated in for tasks), and 24/7 respiratory therapy for ABGs, breathing treatments, and EKGs
- 24/7 phlebotomy for lab draws; X-ray is located down the hall (24/7 access) and CT is adjacent to the department
- No monitor techs — RNs are responsible for reading their own strips using a central monitoring station
- 12-hour shifts with variable start times of 10am, 12pm, and 3pm; day and evening shifts
- Every other weekend required (Saturday and Sunday)
- Holiday coverage required for at least 2 out of 3 winter holidays, otherwise typically every other holiday during the contract
- Floating may be required to inpatient areas to assist as needed
- EMR is currently Cerner, with a transition to Epic underway
Requirements
- Active MI RN license required — must be active by the start date
- Current certifications required: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), PALS (AHA), and TNCC
- Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department RN experience required
- BSN is not required for this position
- 2 professional references required for consideration: 1 supervisor reference from within the last 12 months of relevant experience, and 1 peer or supervisor reference from within the last 3 years of relevant experience
Additional Information
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Candidates who were previously permanent staff at this facility must have an end date at least 6 months prior to their consideration date, and hospital approval is required
- Candidates residing within 80 miles of the facility are considered local, which may affect the applicable pay rate
- Orientation consists of computer-based training and 2 days of floor orientation, including a department-specific policies day
- The charge nurse typically carries a patient assignment
- Scheduling is manager-directed; back-to-back single shifts are avoided when possible, and travelers must be available to rotate across variable start times
- Any solid color scrubs are acceptable — must be clean and professional
- Volunteer early dismissal (without pay) may be offered in low-census situations — there is no mandatory on-call or standby requirement
- No 24/7 dedicated security — facility relies on local law enforcement, internal code backup, and 911
