Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a high-acuity Emergency Department position requiring at least 2 years of critical care experience, TNCC certification, and an AL or compact RN license.

Details

  • High-acuity 71-bed Emergency Department that operates at a Level I capacity despite Level II trauma designation
  • Patient population includes multi-system trauma, STEMI, stroke, CHF, COPD, GI, GU, OB/GYN, pediatrics, and psychiatric cases
  • Patient ratios: 1:4 in the ER, 1:5 for MS holds, and 1:3 for ICU holds
  • EMR: Cerner; IV pumps: Plum 360; medication dispensing: Omnicell; monitors: Spacelabs
  • 12-hour night shifts (7:00 PM start), 36 hours per week with potential for 48
  • Weekend rotation of every other weekend or 4 weekend days per month on a block schedule
  • No on-call requirements and no floating to other units
  • 4-week scheduling cycle with available shift times of 7a–7p, 7p–7a, 11a–11p, and 3p–3a

Requirements

  • Active AL or compact RN license required
  • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC, NIHSS, and Secure/CPI (nationally recognized/JACHO accepted)
  • First-time travelers: minimum 2 years of experience with Cerner or Epic and Level II trauma or higher required
  • Experienced travelers: minimum 2 years of critical care experience (ICU, ER, or MS hold) with the most recent year in a Level II ER; Cerner or Epic preferred
  • Proficiency with trach care, vent care, ICU drip management, chest tube, arterial line, CVL, PICC, midline, port, Foley catheter, splint/ortho device application, BiPAP/hi-flow oxygen, and continuous bladder irrigation
  • Documents required for consideration: 1 reference from a charge nurse or above from the past 12 months, copy of certifications, SSN, and date of birth (day and month)

Additional Information

  • Unit support includes CNAs (1:12 ratio), receptionist/HUC, charge nurse, phlebotomy (available until 3:00 AM), IV/VAT team, and hospitalists
  • New travelers and return travelers absent for 1 or more years will complete 24 hours of classroom orientation followed by 24 hours of on-unit orientation; orientation for rehires is determined based on last date worked
  • Holiday coverage is required for one major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy; specific holiday scheduling is not contractually guaranteed prior to arrival
  • Blackout dates (RTO not approved): MLK Day weekend (1/19–20), Valentine's week (2/13–16), entire month of March, Easter weekend (4/18–20), Mother's Day weekend (5/10–12), Memorial Day week (5/24–26), Father's Day weekend (6/14–16), Fourth of July (7/3–6), Labor Day weekend (8/30–9/1), Halloween week (10/30–11/2), Thanksgiving week (11/26–30), and Christmas/New Year's (12/21–1/1)
  • Up to 7 days of time off may be approved, excluding blackout dates
  • Scrub color: any solid color; parking available in an on-site parking garage
  • Candidates must reside more than 60 miles from the facility to be eligible
  • Former permanent staff must wait 6 months before being considered as a traveler
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply provided they meet the experience and EMR requirements
