Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for an IMC/Stepdown unit at a Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated acute care hospital in Springfield, IL, requiring at least 1 year of telemetry or stepdown experience and an active IL RN license.

Details

  • 13-week contract, day shift (3x12), 6:45 AM – 7:15 PM
  • Intermediate Care/Stepdown (IMC/PCU/DOU) unit within a 562-bed acute care hospital
  • Level I Trauma Center and Magnet-designated teaching hospital
  • Patient population includes cardiac, neurological, respiratory, orthopedic, and post-surgical cases
  • Cardiac monitoring responsibilities include dysrhythmia interpretation and management, telemetry monitoring, and use of Rapid Response Teams
  • Required to work every other weekend
  • No on-call responsibilities
  • Floating within the hospital and to nearby affiliate facilities is required of all travelers
  • Charting system is Cerner
  • Scrubs may be any solid color
  • Parking is available at no cost with a permit obtained during orientation

Requirements

  • Active IL RN license required — pending licensure not accepted
  • Active BLS (AHA or Red Cross) and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certifications required — RQI AHA cards not accepted
  • ACLS preferred
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a telemetry, neuro stepdown, PCU, DOU, or IMC/stepdown setting required
  • Required cardiac skills: post cardiac angiogram, post MI, pre/post cardiac cath, pre/post cardiac surgery, sheath removal, and TR Band
  • Required IV/line skills: accessing ports, arterial line management, blood product administration, central line care, PICC line management, phlebotomy, and peripheral line care
  • Required medication skills: heparin protocols, cardiac and vasoactive drip management with and without titration, PCA, and procedural sedation administration
  • Required respiratory skills: ventilated patient care, chest tubes, BiPAP/CPAP, HFNC, ABG interpretation, and tracheostomy management
  • Required neurological case experience: CVA, TBI, spinal cord injury, craniotomy, and pre/post neurosurgery
  • Required orthopedic experience: total joint replacements, ortho trauma, and peripheral nerve block catheters
  • Additional required skills: feeding tube care, pre/post hemodialysis management, renal failure, skin grafts, surgical drains, wound care/wound vac, and isolation precautions
  • Cerner experience preferred
  • Teaching hospital experience preferred
  • Level I Trauma experience preferred
  • SSN and DOB required for consideration

Additional Information

  • First-time travelers are not accepted for this position
  • Local candidates are accepted with no radius restriction
  • Former permanent or PRN employees of the Memorial Hospital System must have been separated for at least 12 months before being considered as a traveler
  • RTO is ideally no more than 5 days; requests beyond 5 days require facility approval
  • Candidates must be available to work 2 out of 3 major holidays
  • Travel pairs are not accepted — candidates must be submitted individually
