Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Surgical Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position at a major academic teaching hospital, requiring a minimum of 2 years of experience and proficiency in high-acuity surgical nursing skills.
Details
- Surgical PCU at an academic teaching hospital with near-ICU level acuity
- Patient population includes ENT (neck dissections, mandibulectomy), thoracic (esophagectomy, lobectomy, pneumonectomy), general surgery (pancreatic, bowel/liver resections), urology (urinary diversions, cystectomies, RPLND), and medical overflow
- Patient ratio of 1:3–4
- Proficiency required in cardiac monitoring, chest tube management, fresh trachs, feeding tube care, epidurals, non-titratable cardiac drips, IV insulin protocols and insulin drip titration, external BiPAP/CPAP, total laryngectomy care, and Doppler flap checks
- Cerner EMR — experience required
- Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:30)
- Every other weekend required; consecutive weekends may be needed based on operational needs
- Travelers may float to Med-Surg, PCU, or ICU levels of care at both this facility and an affiliate hospital — refusal to float may result in contract termination
Requirements
- Active IN or Compact RN license currently in hand
- Current ACLS and BLS certifications required (AHA or RQI accepted)
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Cerner charting experience required
- RN degree from an ACEN or CCNE accredited nursing program required
- 2 supervisor references required for consideration
- SSN and date of birth required for consideration
- Indiana residents are not eligible for this position (exceptions apply for Periop/OR, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers)
Additional Information
- As a teaching facility, nurses must be willing to precept and/or have students shadow them during their assignment
- Charge nurse responsibilities may be assigned as needed, with training and resources provided
- Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- Up to 5 days of RTO may be auto-approved
- Former permanent or PRN employees of this health system must have a 12-month gap before working as a traveler
- Travelers who have accrued 12 months of travel employment within this health system must take a designated break before reapplying — out-of-state residents require a 90-day break; in-state residents require a 180-day break
- Local candidates (Indiana residents) are not accepted for this position
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
