Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Acute Care Float Pool position at a Magnet-designated teaching hospital, requiring 3+ years of acute care experience and the ability to float across multiple high-acuity units.

Details

  • 13-week contract with potential to extend beyond 13 weeks
  • Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts, 19:00–07:30
  • Patient ratios: 1:3–4 on days, 1:4–5 on nights
  • Float pool position requiring rotation across all acute care units, rehab, and boarding areas, including the ED, PACU, and ICU
  • Travelers receive orientation to 5 different units over 3 twelve-hour shifts before floating independently
  • Day shift travelers may change units up to 3 times within a single 12-hour shift
  • Patient population includes Medical-Surgical, BMT and Oncology, Cardiac Surgery, Telemetry, Neuro, Rehab, Transplant, Short Stay, and boarding units, with a strong presence of gynecology, urology, and oncology patients dispersed throughout the hospital
  • 450-bed facility with 290 acute care beds
  • Charting via Epic (preferred, not required)
  • Weekend requirements on an as-needed basis
  • No on-call responsibilities
  • No floating to sister hospitals
  • Block scheduling is not available
  • Local candidates are accepted

Requirements

  • Active WA RN license or compact license currently in hand — pending licenses are not accepted
  • Current BLS certification required
  • Minimum 3 years of acute care experience required
  • High-acuity acute care experience required, with charge nurse not included in staffing ratios
  • Teaching facility experience highly preferred
  • Experience titrating insulin and heparin drips highly preferred
  • Experience managing epidural medications (e.g., Ketamine) and PCAs highly preferred
  • Epic EMR experience preferred
  • COVID vaccination and booster required — no exceptions
  • Skills checklist and 2 references must be completed within the past 6 months by a direct supervisor (not a charge RN)

Additional Information

  • First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
  • Prior UW staff must have been separated from the facility for at least 18 months before returning as a traveler
  • RTO should be kept to a minimum (aim for no more than 6 days off); stricter limits apply during peak summer and peak winter holiday periods
  • RTO cannot be requested during orientation week
  • Scrubs in any color are acceptable; scrubs are provided for OR personnel
  • Magnet-designated academic teaching facility
  • Trauma center experience preferred
