Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position requiring at least 2 years of experience, telemetry skills, and an active NC or compact RN license.

Details

• Hospital-based PCU/Med-Surg Telemetry mixed acuity unit with 48 total beds
• Patient population includes COPD exacerbations, pneumonia, acute respiratory failure, PE, COVID-19, flu, and patients with chest tubes, CPAP, BiPAP, and telemetry monitoring — many with significant comorbidities
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4–5, with a maximum of 1:6 in extreme situations; no nurse is assigned more than one ventilator patient at a time
• Ventilators on unit are used for chronic trach/vent patients only
• Special equipment includes chest tubes, vents, trachs, CPAP/BiPAP, and drips including Dopamine, Cardizem, and Heparin
• EMR: Epic (also uses Pyxis and SBAR communication model)
• Night shift: 3x12-hour shifts, 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
• Every other weekend required
• Floating required to like units
• Block scheduling available when unit needs are met
• 13-week contract with potential for extension beyond 13 weeks

Requirements

• Active NC or compact RN license required (may be pending at time of consideration)
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
• NIHSS certification preferred
• Minimum 2 years of relevant RN experience required
• Proficiency in IV starts, ventilator management, telemetry, CPAP/BiPAP, and dysrhythmia interpretation and management required
• Must pass an EKG test prior to start
• Two professional supervisor/manager references from within the past 2 years required (pending at time of consideration is acceptable, but must be on file by start date)

• Unit is supported by a team lead (3:1 rounding), 2 rounding respiratory therapists, an assistant nurse manager on shift including weekends, an admission/discharge nurse, vascular access team, RRT, code team, and behavioral health team
• CNA ratio is approximately 9–10:1
• Orientation is 24 hours; pre-start modules of approximately 8–10 hours are required and must also be completed annually (completed via online learning, Zoom, webinar, or in-person)
• Scrubs not provided; white or navy blue scrubs required
• Candidates must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
• Up to 7 days of RTO may be approved, provided it does not fall on a holiday; no RTO is permitted during the first week of the assignment (orientation week); any RTO beyond 7 days requires facility approval
• Candidates who were previously employed (permanent, PRN, or per diem) at this health system must wait 12 months before being considered as a traveler; facility rehire approval is required
• Local candidates are accepted; candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility are eligible at a adjusted rate
• Travel pairs are welcome, but each traveler must have their own transportation and be flexible with potentially differing schedules
