Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position specializing in cardiac and thoracic care, requiring a minimum of 1 year of acute care PCU experience and active CO or Compact RN license.
Details
- High-acuity progressive/intermediate care cardiac unit located on the 5th floor of the Northwest Tower, within a recognized cardiac center of excellence
- 30-bed unit staffed with RNs and PCTs, with day shift consisting of 1 Charge RN, 5–8 RNs, and 2–4 PCTs
- Patient ratio is 1:4, with frequent 1:5 assignments
- Patient population includes post-cath care (right and left heart caths, TAVRs, ablations, Watchmans, pacemaker implantations), post-thoracic surgery (VATs/RATs, resections, lobectomies), pre/post open-heart surgery (CABGs, MVRs, AVRs, aortic dissection repairs), and vascular surgery post-op
- Equipment includes telemetry monitors, transport monitors, suction, feeding pumps, trachs, BiPAP, CPAP, heated high-flow, chest tubes, Foley catheters, pacer wires/pacers, IV pumps, and SCD pumps
- EMR system is Meditech
- Day shift: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active CO or Compact RN license required
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA or ARC accepted; must not expire within the first 30 days of the assignment start)
- Current NIHSS certification required
- Minimum 1 year of recent acute care PCU hospital experience required
- US SSN and date of birth required for consideration — no Canadian SSN accepted
- One professional reference required
- No gaps in work history of 90 days or more within the past 12 months
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible — no local candidates accepted
Additional Information
- Preferred skills include chest tube management and removal, pacer wire removal, 12-lead EKGs, O2 management up to BiPAP and heated high-flow, and drip management (heparin, diltiazem, amiodarone, Lasix, dobutamine, milrinone, ketamine)
- Ideal candidates are high-energy team players who are flexible, adaptable, and value communication and collaboration
