Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Emergency Department position at a Level II Trauma Center in Tacoma, WA, requiring at least 1 year of strong ED experience and a WA or compact RN license.
Details
- Work in a 60-bed Emergency Department at a Level II Trauma Center and Level IV NICU facility
- High-acuity receiving facility averaging 140–150 patients per day
- Patient population spans pediatrics to geriatrics, including trauma, GSW, sepsis, STEMI, stroke, DKA, mental health, adult psych, respiratory issues, and COVID
- Standard patient ratio is 1:4, with flexibility to 1:5 for low-acuity patients
- 12-hour shifts with various start times across days, mids, and evenings/nights; shift block of 6 weeks at a time
- Every other weekend rotation required
- No on-call responsibilities
- No floating required
- EMR: Epic (training available during orientation if needed)
- IV Pumps: Alaris; Medication Dispensing: Pyxis
- Central and bedside telemetry monitoring at the nursing station (no telemetry tech)
Requirements
- Active WA state or compact RN license required
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC, NIHSS, and CPI/MOAB
- Traveler Competency Exam must be completed and passed prior to start
- Minimum 1 year of strong ED experience required
- Proficiency in cardiac rhythm interpretation, IV skills, procedural sedation, blood administration, cardiac drips and medication administration
- At least one supervisor-level reference (Charge Nurse, Manager, Director, or above) required for consideration; a second reference will be needed prior to start
Additional Information
- First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
- Orientation includes a facility/systems day (badge, Epic training if needed, meeting with ED Educator) followed by 3–4 preceptored 12-hour shifts on the assigned shift
- Unit support includes ER techs, a charge nurse (rarely takes assignment), resource/float nurse (pending staffing), Respiratory Therapy 24/7, ED Educator, Security 24/7, House Supervisor 24/7, and Pharmacy 24/7
- Coverage required for 3 of 5 major holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, and New Year's Day
- Up to 5 days of time off may be approved during the contract
- Any color professional scrubs are acceptable; modest piercings (studs only) and non-offensive tattoos are permitted
- Free parking available in designated areas
