Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg position at an acute care hospital in West Virginia, requiring at least 1 year of RN experience and a WV or compact RN license.

Details

• Acute care hospital setting on a 48-bed Med/Surg unit
• Patient population includes common diagnoses such as pneumonia, UTI, altered mental status, GI bleed, alcohol withdrawal, and falls/weakness
• Day shift nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5–7; night shift ratio is 1:6–8
• PCT support available at an average ratio of 1:10–12, assisting with vitals, blood glucose monitoring, EKGs, heart monitor application, bathing, feeding, toileting, and repositioning
• RNs are required to titrate select drips (heparin, bumex, lasix); cardiac drip titration is not required
• Respiratory therapy staff manage all respiratory equipment including BiPAP, CPAP, and high-flow O2; RNs are responsible for monitoring only
• Monitor techs on a separate floor read and monitor telemetry for all patients and alert nurses as needed; RNs are not expected to independently read or interpret telemetry strips
• Charting is done in Epic
• 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
• Every other weekend required
• May be asked to participate in holiday rotation
• No on-call or standby requirement
• Floating may be required to other Med/Surg, Med/Surg-Tele, or IMC units for lower acuity patients
• No self-scheduling or block scheduling; schedule is manager-directed with flexibility around requested time off
• Travelers are expected to be flexible and help fill gaps in the permanent staff schedule
• 13-week contract

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license required
• Current BLS certification required
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
• A copy of an unexpired driver's license is required for consideration
• Any licensing issues or hits must be disclosed upfront
• Two references required: one supervisor reference and one peer or additional supervisor reference (e.g., Charge RN)
• If the candidate held a permanent position within the last 12 months, one supervisor reference must be from that facility
• Skills checklist completed within the past year required
• BSN not required

Additional Information

• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this travel position
• Orientation consists of 1 day with an educator/computer system training and 1 day with a preceptor
• Scrub color for RNs is navy blue
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Candidates who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a minimum 2-year break before reapplying
• Travelers may not work within the WVU system for longer than one cumulative year before taking a 2-year break
