Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU (Progressive Care Unit) position at a Level I Trauma teaching hospital, requiring at least 2 years of nursing experience and Cerner proficiency.
Details
- Progressive Care Unit (PCU) at a Level I Trauma, academic teaching hospital
- Cardiovascular-focused patient population including CHF, post-MI, pulmonary hypertension, cardiac arrhythmias, COPD, congenital heart defects, infective endocarditis, and related co-morbidities
- Cares for post-cath lab patients and patients pre-LVAD placement, heart/lung transplant, and valve replacement
- Patient ratio of 1:4
- Required skills include cardiac PCU care, IV drips, post-cath lab care, IV starts, and sheath pulls
- Preferred skills include conscious sedation and telemetry monitoring
- Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:30)
- Must be available to work 50% of weekends during the contract
- Travelers may be assigned charge nurse responsibilities based on operational needs, with training and resources provided
- Floating required to different levels of care (Med-Surg, PCU, ICU) within the hospital or to an affiliate hospital; refusal to float may result in contract termination
- Charting via Cerner (experience required)
Requirements
- Active IN or Compact RN license currently in hand
- RN degree from a university accredited by ACEN or CCNE at time of graduation
- Current BLS (AHA or RQI accepted); ACLS preferred (AHA or RQI accepted)
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Level I Trauma experience required
- Cerner EMR experience required
- Proficiency in cardiac PCU skills: IV drips, post-cath lab care, IV starts, and sheath pulls
- 2 supervisor references required for consideration
- SSN and DOB required for consideration
Additional Information
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Indiana residents are not accepted as local candidates for this position
- As a teaching facility, all travel nurses must be willing to precept and/or be assigned students to shadow them during their assignment
- Candidates must cover 2 out of 3 major holidays
- Former permanent or PRN employees of this health system must have been separated for at least 12 months before being eligible as a traveler
- Travelers who have accrued 12 months of travel employment within this health system are required to take a consecutive break to reset eligibility: out-of-state residents require a 90-day break; in-state residents require a 180-day break
- Up to 5 days of RTO may be auto-approved
