Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg night shift travel position requiring 2 years of Med/Surg experience, Epic proficiency, and telemetry interpretation skills.
Details
- Acute care Med/Surg unit on the 5th floor of a hospital setting
- 42-bed unit serving a diverse patient population including total joints, orthopedic hip fractures, spine surgeries (lumbar and cervical), urology procedures with CBI, general surgeries (cholecystectomies, bowel resections, mastectomies), GYN overflow, and medical overflow including COPD, sepsis, infections, and some behavioral health
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5, with 1:6 occurring rarely
- Nurse aides/patient care techs available on the unit at a 1:8 ratio
- Charge nurse present on each shift; day shift also has an ADT nurse to assist with admissions, discharges, and tasking
- Virtual tele techs on unit; RNs are required to read and interpret their own telemetry strips
- Telemetry monitoring equipment in use (transitioning from SpaceLab to Philips); RT manages CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow oxygen
- Common drips include heparin, PCAs, and morphine; RNs are not required to titrate drips
- EMR: Epic (experience required)
- 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
- Weekend requirement: 5 weekend shifts per 6-week period
- Travelers are first to float; floating may occur between Med/Surg 5 and Med/Surg 6, to other like units in the Treasure Valley area (approx. 8 miles away), or to the ER for holds or 1:1 assignments
- No block scheduling or special scheduling requests accepted
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active Idaho (ID) or Compact RN license required
- BSN required
- Current BLS and EKG certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg experience required
- Epic EMR experience required
- Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips required
- Must be willing to precept students or new travelers
- Valid driver's license required for consideration
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
Additional Information
- Orientation includes 3 days of general orientation (Epic training and educator meeting), online modules to be completed prior to start, and 2 shifts on the unit with a preceptor
- Holiday coverage required on an as-needed basis
- Scrubs may be any color, as long as they are clean and professional
- Former permanent employees must have been separated for at least one year before being considered for a travel assignment
- Candidates living within 50 miles of the facility are not eligible for this position
