Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Medical ICU position at a Level 1 Trauma, academic teaching hospital, requiring a minimum of 2 years of ICU experience and proficiency with ventilator management and vasoactive medications.

Details

  • Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) in a 637-licensed-bed, Level 1 Trauma, academic teaching hospital with Chest Pain and Stroke Center designations
  • 14-bed MICU unit typically running at full census
  • Patient population includes medical ICU cases such as respiratory failure, renal failure, sepsis, GI bleed, DKA, hemodynamic instability, ARDS, stroke, pneumonia, cancer, and overdoses
  • Cares for chronic ventilator and chronic trach patients as well as hemodynamically unstable patients requiring invasive monitoring
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:1–2 (ratio of 1:3 is possible but rare)
  • 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM, 36 hours per week
  • Weekend rotation includes 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule
  • Floating required to all adult ICU units and PCU within the facility
  • EMR: Epic (experience required)
  • IV pump: Alaris; medication dispensing: Pyxis; patient monitors: Philips

Requirements

  • Active RN license — GA state or Compact license required
  • Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
  • CCRN preferred but not required
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU RN experience, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Proficiency with trach care, chest tube management, and peripheral IV (PIV) starts
  • Experience managing insulin drips, heparin drips, and vasoactive/titrated medications
  • Experience monitoring and managing invasive lines including arterial lines, central venous lines, and intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring
  • Experience with ventilator management
  • Experience with TABLO renal replacement therapy preferred
  • 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN required for consideration
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Responsibilities include management of hemodynamically unstable patients, titration of vasoactive and drip medications, and assistance with bedside procedures such as chest tube placement, tracheostomy, and PEG tube placement
  • Unit equipment includes TABLO, Belmont Rapid Infuser, PCA pain management devices, SCDs, and cooling/heating blankets
  • Support staff includes CNAs (1–2 per shift), unit secretary (7 AM–11 PM), charge nurse, PICC team, resource team, respiratory therapy (24/7), hospitalist (24/7), and intensivist (24/7)
  • Phlebotomy is lab-collected on most units; nurses draw from central venous lines (CVLs)
  • Orientation consists of 1 day of facility orientation with educational modules plus 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Clinical interview with manager approval required prior to offer
  • Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
  • Candidates who have worked a permanent position at an AHSE facility must be separated for at least 1 year before being eligible
  • No radius rule — local candidates in GA are accepted at the same rate
