Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a 13-week Cardiac Telemetry travel contract in West Virginia, requiring strip reading proficiency and at least 2 years of telemetry experience.
Details
- Acute care telemetry unit with 43 beds (semi-private and private rooms)
- Patient population includes post heart cath, TR band, CHF, COPD, post pacer placement, arrhythmias, and patients awaiting CABG consult
- Average nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5, with the ability to flex to 1:6
- PCTs are available on the unit with duties including ADLs, fingerstick blood sugars, and EKGs
- Unit has monitor techs and serves as the central monitor station for the entire North Tower
- Charge nurse coverage is available 24/7; travelers comfortable with charge responsibilities may be considered
- Occasional high-flow oxygen therapy; BiPAP and CPAP used for supportive therapy only
- Heparin titration required; Cardizem and Amiodarone are set-rate only; occasional Lasix or Bumex titration
- Charting via Epic; experience preferred
- 12-hour night shifts (1900–0730)
- Every-other-weekend requirement; night weekend shifts include Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday
- Floating is required and may include stepdown or, rarely, ICU; patients assigned will match the traveler's skillset
- On-call or standby may occasionally occur during low census but is rare
Requirements
- Active WV or Compact RN license required
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA) required
- Minimum 2 years of telemetry or cardiac nursing experience
- Ability to read cardiac rhythm strips independently
- Proficiency with IV drip titration, particularly Heparin
- Ability to perform EKGs independently when PCT support is unavailable
- Valid driver's license required for consideration
Additional Information
- Royal blue scrubs required; scrub jackets are optional but must be an actual scrub jacket — no hoodies or sweat jackets
- Orientation consists of 1 day of computer training followed by 1 day of floor shadowing with a preceptor
- Unit is fast-paced with approximately 8–12 admissions and 8–12 discharges per day; RNs are expected to manage their own admissions and discharges
- Strong teamwork culture; staff are encouraged to ask for and offer help as needed; a unit clerk is also available
- Holiday coverage may be required based on unit needs
- Self-scheduling is available and block scheduling can be accommodated based on unit needs
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from this WVU facility to be eligible for travel pay
- Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have a 2-year break in service before returning
- Travelers may not work within WVU Medicine for more than one cumulative year without taking a 2-year break
- Two references are required for consideration: one supervisor reference and one peer or additional supervisor reference
- A skills checklist completed within the past year is required for consideration
