Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an ICU/PCU Float position requiring at least 3 years of critical care experience and the ability to titrate vasoactive drips in an acute care hospital setting.
Details
- Float position covering both the ICU (24 beds) and PCU (26 beds) in an acute care hospital setting
- ICU patient population includes post-CABG/PCI cardiac patients, sepsis, DKA, and respiratory failure
- ICU nurse-to-patient ratio is 2:1 (occasionally 3:1 depending on acuity); PCU ratio is 4:1
- RNs are required to titrate drips including Levophed, amiodarone, heparin, Precedex, propofol, Cardene, nitro, Neo-Synephrine, dopamine, and others
- Respiratory therapy is available 24/7 in the ICU; equipment includes ventilators, BiPAP, and Airvo
- Bedside monitors and a charge desk monitor bank are in use; a monitor tech is on site
- Charting is done in Paragon EMR
- Intensivist is in-house during the day; hospitalists are available around the clock
- No nurse aides in the ICU; 1–2 aides per shift in the PCU
- 12-hour night shifts, 7p–7a
- Every other weekend required; holiday coverage depends on unit needs
- Floating between ICU and PCU is expected, with occasional float to other departments
- No on-call or standby requirement
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active TX RN license or Compact (NLC) license required; must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses not accepted
- Minimum 3 years of critical care (ICU) experience required
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; pending certifications not accepted
- Experience titrating vasoactive and sedation drips required
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Copy of driver's license required for consideration
Additional Information
- Orientation consists of a new employee orientation during the first week, plus one orientation shift each on the ICU and PCU
- Navy blue scrubs are required
- Candidates who have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year are not eligible; candidates who worked PRN through an outside staffing firm will be considered
