Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Advanced Care Unit (Stepdown) position requiring stepdown acuity experience, strip reading proficiency, and an active WV or compact RN license.
Details
- Advanced Care Unit (Stepdown) in an acute care hospital setting
- 30-bed unit with all private rooms
- Designated Stroke, Trauma, and Vascular unit — common diagnoses include fempops, carotids, DKA, AKA, post-caths with TR Bands and femoral access, and fresh carotid patients
- Patient ratio of 1:4 with 3 PCTs per shift (PCT ratio 1:10)
- RNs are required to titrate drips including Cardizem (per physician orders), insulin, and heparin
- Respiratory therapy equipment on unit includes CPAP, BiPap, and High Flow; stable vents anticipated in the future
- Unit has monitor techs, but RNs are required to read, verify, and sign off on telemetry strips
- Sheaths are not pulled on this unit
- Charge Nurse available 24/7; night charge nurses always take a patient assignment, day charge nurses may take one depending on unit needs
- 12-hour day shifts, 0700–1930
- Self-scheduling and block scheduling allowed based on unit needs; block scheduling is not guaranteed
- Every other weekend required (Day weekends: Sat/Sun)
- Holiday coverage may be required if unit needs dictate
- On-call requirements are very rare
- Travelers are first to float — may float down to Med/Surg or Tele, or up to ICU for ACU-status patients only; floating to CV Stepdown is possible but not to CVICU
- EMR: Epic
Requirements
- Active WV or compact RN license required
- Current certifications required: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), and NIHSS
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Stepdown acuity experience with stroke, trauma, and vascular patient populations required
- Ability to read and interpret cardiac telemetry strips required
- Experience titrating drips required
- Valid driver's license copy required for consideration
- BSN not required
Additional Information
- Orientation consists of day 1 with HR and clinical educator followed by shadowing, day 2 shadowing, and day 3 independent practice
- Royal blue scrubs required; scrub jackets are optional but must be an actual scrub jacket — hoodies and sweat-jackets are not permitted
- Candidates must live more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
- Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying
- Travelers may not work within the WVU system for more than one cumulative year before a 2-year break is required
- A driver's license copy, certifications, skills checklist (completed within the past year), and two references (one supervisor, one peer or additional supervisor) are required for consideration
