Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU/Med-Surg/Oncology night shift position at a Level 1 Trauma Center, requiring active chemo certification and oncology/PCU experience.

Details

  • Acute care setting at a Level 1 Trauma Center, PCU/Med-Surg/Oncology unit
  • 27-28 bed mixed unit serving oncology and trauma PCU patient populations
  • Adult patient population with common diagnoses including oncology and trauma
  • RN-to-patient ratios: 1:4 (PCU days), 1:5 (Med-Surg days), 1:5-6 (nights)
  • Common drips include chemotherapy, heparin, cardizem, and protonix; insulin and cardizem titration required occasionally
  • Competencies utilized include ventilator management, hemodynamic monitoring (CVP, A-line, Swan, EV-1000), and ICP monitoring — on-the-job training available for these
  • Charting in Epic; recent Epic experience (within 6 months) is noted during orientation planning
  • Alaris IV pumps used on the unit
  • 12-hour night shifts (7p–7a)
  • Every other weekend required
  • Self-scheduling unit
  • Floating required to same level of care (Med-Surg and PCU units)
  • 2-day orientation provided

Requirements

  • Active NE state or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active, pending licenses not accepted
  • Active certifications required: BLS (AHA), ACLS, and ONS/ONCC chemo certification
  • Minimum 1 year of RN experience in oncology and PCU settings required
  • Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility, verified by driver's license
  • Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year — candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
  • Driver's license required for consideration
  • Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas

Additional Information

  • Unit cares for oncology patients across the full care continuum, from diagnosis through remission or end-of-life
  • Multidisciplinary support team includes PT/OT, RN case manager, social worker, educator, and dietitian, as well as nursing assistant and charge nurse support
  • Lyko lifts available in even-numbered rooms; additional lift equipment available throughout the unit
  • Orientation includes an open-book pass/fail exam on skills learned; a score of 90% or higher is required to pass
  • Navy blue scrubs required
  • Hourly rounding is a key patient experience expectation on this unit
  • RTO requests must be submitted upfront; 7 or fewer days per 13-week contract — additional RTO will not be approved after submission
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
