Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU/MedSurg position at a short-term acute care hospital, requiring Cerner experience and a minimum of 18 months of RN experience.

Details

  • Mixed acuity PCU/MedSurg unit serving cardiovascular surgery, thoracic surgery, cardiology, endocrine, and oncology patient populations
  • Patient population includes post-cardiac surgery (CABG, TAVR, SAVR, MVR, VATS), thoracic surgery, and flex acuity MedSurg, Progressive, and ICU cardiovascular and oncology patients
  • Patient ratio of 1:5
  • Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:30)
  • Every other weekend required
  • Floating required within the hospital or to a nearby affiliate hospital
  • No on-call requirement
  • All private rooms equipped with overhead lifts and telemetry monitoring
  • Charting via Cerner (experience required)
  • Free parking available

Requirements

  • Active IN or Compact RN license required; pending license accepted if IN, Compact, or temp license is obtained prior to start
  • RN degree from an ACEN- or CCNE-accredited nursing program required
  • Minimum 18 months of RN experience required
  • Required certifications: BLS and ACLS (AHA or RQI accepted, must be current)
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification preferred
  • Proficiency in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias required
  • Experience with arterial line management, central line care/management, and PICC line management required
  • Experience administering blood products required
  • Ability to titrate cardiac and vasoactive drips required
  • Experience with post-cardiac surgery patients (directly or indirectly from OR) and TAVI/TAVR required
  • Preferred experience: Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP), pre/post cardiac cath/intervention, sheath removal, ventricular assist devices (LVAD/RVAD/Impella), and ventilator management
  • 2 supervisor references required for consideration
  • SSN and DOB required for consideration

Additional Information

  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Indiana residents are considered local candidates and are not eligible for this PCU position
  • Former permanent or PRN employees of IU Health must have a 12-month break in IU employment before being eligible as a traveler
  • Travelers who have accrued 12 months of travel employment within IU Health must take a consecutive break to reset eligibility: out-of-state residents require a 90-day break; in-state residents require a 180-day break
  • Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays during the assignment
  • Up to 5 days of RTO may be auto-approved
  • Scrub colors required: black bottoms and red top
  • Previous charge nurse experience is preferred
