Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced OR RN for a night shift travel assignment at an acute care facility in Georgia, requiring a GA or compact RN license and a minimum of 2 years of OR experience.
Details
- Full-service acute care hospital OR setting with 19 surgical suites
- High-volume unit averaging 55–60 cases per day and approximately 1,000 cases per month
- Cases include general surgery, robotics, ortho/neuro trauma, and cardiothoracic — no major pediatric cases, no transplants, and no C-sections in the main OR
- Facility functions at a Level 2 trauma capacity
- Certified Surgical Technologists (CST) are present and support the surgical team
- Charting is performed in MEDITECH
- 12-hour night shifts, 7p–7a
- Weekend rotation approximately once per quarter
- On-call requirement averages every 7th weekend; no weekday call for general OR staff — specialty call (ortho/neuro and cardiothoracic) may apply if cases fall within the traveler's competency
- On-call response time is 30 minutes
- No floating required
Requirements
- Active GA RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of OR nursing experience required
- Broad surgical competency across most service lines required
- Scrubbing skills preferred, though not required
- BSN not required
- Driver's license required for consideration
Additional Information
- Candidates must reside more than 75 miles from the facility (measured from the address on their driver's license) to be eligible
- Candidates who have been employed by this facility within the last 12 months are not eligible
- One week of unit-specific orientation is provided
- Holiday coverage is required on a rotating basis with permanent staff — flexibility is expected
- Scrubs are provided by the facility
- Respiratory therapy and pharmacy support available 24/7
- Surgeons are on call 24/7 and cover their own cases
- RTO requests are only honored if included at the time of initial assignment confirmation
- Candidates are expected to have strong attendance, punctuality, and reliability — the skills checklist must accurately reflect experience level
- Scrub color is provided by the facility

Cons
High acuity, fast-paced. Patients often feel un-heard by Providers. Multiple return to ER, some are malingers, some valid concerns that remain ongoing. Typical expectation- ER used as Primary, causes patients to congest the ER with unneeded repeat tests with same results. Higher acuity patients that can not describe symptoms accurately- also causes congestion. Lower level education in community.
