Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Ortho-Urology unit position at a teaching hospital in North Carolina, requiring at least 1 year of med/surg experience and an active NC or compact RN license.
Details
- Work in a 36-bed Ortho-Urology med/surg unit at a 351-licensed-bed teaching hospital with Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center designations
- Patient population includes general med/surg and post-operative floor patients, with common cases including CBI, bariatric, hip, trauma surgical, and bucks traction patients
- RN-to-patient ratio is 1:6
- EMR is Epic (experience required); IV pumps are Baxter, transitioning to Alaris in 2026; medication dispensing via Omnicell; monitoring via Philips MX-40s
- 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM, 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend rotation required
- Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
- Floating required to sister units 7 North and 7 South, both med/surg with the same ratios and expectations
- No on-call requirements
Requirements
- Active NC RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 1 year of med/surg experience, with most recent experience within the last year
- General medical/surgical patient care skills required, including CBI experience
- Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
- At least 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
Additional Information
- CNA support available for ADLs, vital signs, ambulation, feeding assistance, and blood sugars; charge nurse, phlebotomy, telemetry monitoring/tech, respiratory therapy, hospitalist, and intensivist support available 24/7
- Unit coordinator/HUC support is available during day shift (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM) only
- Orientation includes facility-level NEO and 2 days of departmental unit orientation
- Required scrub color is royal blue
- Free parking available on-site
- First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
- Candidates who have worked a permanent position at an AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being eligible
