Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry Float Pool position at a Level II Trauma facility in West Virginia, requiring ACLS certification and the ability to pass a cardiac rhythm exam.

Details

  • Acute care hospital setting at a Level II Trauma facility
  • Float pool assignment covering Med/Surg Telemetry units, with primary placement on 6N (36 beds) and 7N (29 beds); other possible units include 4N, 5N, 5S, 6S, and Critical Care (20 beds)
  • Patient population includes CHF, cardiac cath, chest pain, pneumonia, chronic renal disease, COPD, orthopedic, and oncology cases (chemo administration is handled by permanent staff only)
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:5–6, depending on acuity; may occasionally reach 1:7 toward the end of a shift
  • Telemetry monitoring via Philips system; most units have monitor techs, but RNs must be able to independently read and interpret cardiac strips
  • CPAP and BiPap are present on units; managed by Respiratory Therapy
  • CNAs are available on all units
  • Charting via Epic (experience required)
  • 12-hour night shifts (7p–7a)
  • Every-other-weekend requirement (Saturday and Sunday)
  • Holiday rotation shared with permanent staff
  • Float pool RNs report to the clinical coordinator's office prior to shift start for unit assignment; will likely be given a 'parent unit' and assigned basic telemetry patients within scope of practice

Requirements

  • Active WV RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Med/Surg and/or telemetry experience required
  • Must be able to read and interpret cardiac rhythm strips
  • Must pass a cardiac rhythm/EKG exam prior to placement
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Valid, unexpired driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Float pool RNs will not be required to titrate drips
  • Each unit has a charge nurse available; day charge does not carry a patient assignment, night charge does
  • Orientation consists of 1–2 shifts with a preceptor
  • Royal blue scrubs required
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this travel position
  • Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying
  • Travelers are not permitted to work within the WVU system for longer than one cumulative year without taking a 2-year break
