Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiac/Telemetry Stepdown (7N) night shift position at an acute care, Level II Trauma facility in West Virginia, requiring drip titration experience and an active WV or compact RN license.

Details

  • 29-bed Cardiac/Telemetry Stepdown unit in an acute care, Level II Trauma hospital
  • Patient population includes cardiac patients, CR bands, post-cath, AMI, post-op lung surgeries (post-CCU), respiratory failure, chest tubes, pacemakers, and post-PCI patients — no sheath pulls or arterial lines
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5–6
  • CNA support available; ideally 1 CNA per 12 patients (typically 3 CNAs on days, 2 on nights)
  • Charge nurse available 24/7; night charge nurse carries a patient assignment
  • Occasional cardiac drips requiring titration, including Cardizem, Amiodarone, Dobutamine, Dopamine, Integrelin, Heparin, Ativan, Lasix, and Nitro (up to 50 mcg)
  • CPAP and BiPap present on unit; managed by Respiratory Therapy
  • Telemetry monitoring via Philips monitors; RNs must read and interpret their own strips
  • Charting system: Epic
  • 12-hour night shifts (7p–7a)
  • Every-other-weekend requirement (Saturday and Sunday)
  • Floating may be required to other MedSurg/Tele units
  • 13-week contract

Requirements

  • Active WV or compact RN license required
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Demonstrated ability to titrate IV drips required
  • Telemetry strip reading and interpretation required
  • Epic EMR experience preferred
  • BSN not required

Additional Information

  • Royal blue scrubs required
  • Artificial/false nails are not permitted
  • Holiday rotation shared with permanent staff
  • EKG testing (pass/fail) required for this Stepdown unit prior to starting
  • Candidates must live more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this travel position
  • Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying
  • Travelers may not work within the WVU system for more than one cumulative year without a 2-year break
  • Two references required for consideration: one supervisor reference and one peer or additional supervisor reference (e.g., Charge RN); if the candidate worked a permanent position in the last 12 months, one supervisor reference must be from that facility
  • Driver's license and copies of all certifications required for consideration
  • Skills checklist completed within the past year required for consideration
  • Work history covering the past 7 years (or from graduation, whichever is less) required, with no gaps greater than 30 days
