Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Medical Surgical Oncology position requiring at least 1 year of MS and oncology experience, Epic proficiency, and an active OH or compact RN license.
Details
- Hospital-based Medical Surgical Oncology unit with mixed acuity PCU and MS patients
- Patient population includes hematological malignancies such as ALL, AML, CLL, CML, Hodgkin's and Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma, Multiple Myeloma, Myelodysplastic Syndrome, Aplastic Anemia, Amyloidosis, and Myeloproliferative Disorders
- Specialized procedures include autologous, syngeneic, and allogeneic stem cell transplants, as well as CAR-T therapy
- Required skills include telemetry monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation, blood product administration, central line blood draw, PICC line management, peripheral line care, feeding tube care, and nasal cannula administration
- Rapid Response Team utilization is part of standard practice on this unit
- Epic EMR experience is required
- Primary shift is nights (7p–7:30a, 3x12); rotating day/night scheduling is possible based on department needs, with shift assignments reviewed every 4-week scheduling period
- 16-week contract
Requirements
- Active OH or compact RN license required
- Current BLS certification required
- ACLS and ONS Chemotherapy Certification preferred (chemo certification is not required)
- Minimum 1 year of MS and oncology nursing experience required
- Hematology/oncology (Heme Onc) experience strongly preferred
- Epic EMR experience required
- 2 professional references required: at least 1 must be from a Manager, Director, or formal leadership role (e.g., Supervisor); a Charge RN is acceptable as the second reference; co-worker references are not accepted
Additional Information
- Local candidates are accepted at the same rate as travelers
- Former facility employees are eligible for a travel assignment after a minimum 6-month separation from the facility
- All requested time off (RTO) must be submitted at the time of consideration and built into the contract, with a maximum of 7 days
- Ohio fingerprinting is required and must be initiated promptly after contract signing — candidates outside Ohio will need to travel to an in-state fingerprinting location or complete a mailed fingerprinting packet as soon as it is received

Units are nice, staff are kind. Single patient rooms with 4:1 ratios day and night on med surg.
Cons
Scheduled every weekend, floated for the first 6 weeks of contract every shift. Not traveler friendly even though they say they are. Staff are treated well not travelers.
